Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United States of AmericaThe food in restaurants wasn’t the best.
Very nice, comfortable, spacious place. Beautiful views. Friendly accommodating staff. Market on site with affordable prices and anything you could need for kids. You could come almost empty handed get everything it in the market.

United KingdomOur en suite shower didn’t drain well so kept completely flooding the bathroom floor and then the water just stayed and probably would’ve remained till the whole week had we not eventually found a mop in the cupboard. That was the only thing that was a bit of a downer on the holiday, which was a bit of a shame because it would’ve been perfect otherwise.
The facilities for families are amazing! So many swimming pools, and the time of year we went meant it wasn’t too busy. Our 2.5 year old had so much to do and absolutely loved it. I felt like we were discovering completely new bits of the resort every day. We stayed in a 2 bed villa and everything just seemed so well considered, eg having different firmness of pillows so you had a choice depending on your preference (like an actual real choice rather than just a bed full of pillows and random cushions), there was a welcome basket with things like milk, cereal, and dishwasher and washing machine tablets were provided.

NetherlandsThe location is a bit far from Faro so it requires additional logistics to get to.
The place is meticulously designed for families with kids (at all ages). It's extremely well prepared for having a child and everyone from the family enjoying a good time! The scenery is stunnning and the staff is top notch!

United KingdomNothing
Everything! I had heard good stuff about this hotel and it really didn’t disappoint. We stayed in down season (early February) so understandably some of the facilities were closed, but there was still enough variety to keep all of the family happy. Also this meant the resort was quiet which we liked, as well as excellent value for money! The resort is well maintained and everything looks brand new, our garden house was spotless, and everything we ate in the restaurant was delicious. The biggest positive for me was the staff - everyone we met went out of their way to make our stay as perfect as possible. We’ll definitely be coming back!

United States of AmericaNothing! Everything was great.
This was our second stay at a Martinhal property and it completely delivered! We traveled with our 2 year old son and from the start, the staff was welcoming and lovely with him. The property is huge and has so many great amenities for children and adults alike. Even though we visited in off-peak season and some of the restaurants/spaces were closed, we felt it met our needs. Our 2 bedroom villa gave us plenty of space and had everything we needed for our little one. Tub, high chair, crib, baby gates on the stairs, blackout curtains in the rooms, snacks and milk for our son (and a bottle of port for the adults), etc. Loved renting e-bikes and biking to the lighthouse as a short day excursion. Jerome at the bike station was amazing! 10/10 recommend this hotel.

United States of AmericaThis beautiful family resport was also a lovely place for a couple without children. The beach was exceptional and so were the facilities. We were there in the off-season (January), and I imagine that it can get pretty crazy in the summer. But we loved it.

IrelandIt’s not very bike friendly for smaller kids, due to hills and cobbled streets. The TV also doesn’t have Netflix etc so could do with upgrading (or bring firestick/ Apple TV with you). Some of the fitness classes were too expensive eg. €24 for a yoga class which should be €10.
Great location close to beautiful beach, great pools, great playgrounds, great food and great staff. We all loved it.

United KingdomThe restaurants are very expensive and there isn't really a less expensive option, so you do end up spending a lot of money. Perhaps there could be slightly more to do for older kids (outside of the kids club). The family disco was a great idea but mainly suited the much younger ones with the songs and dances chosen.
The staff were exceptional - incredibly friendly and helpful, as well as being great with the kids. The food and drink was all delicious - I was impressed with the number of vegetarian options. The fairy trail set up for the kids was a wonderful detail - both my children (aged 8 and 5) loved completing it. We used taxis to get to sarges a few times and we always had the same taxi driver - Edson - who was wonderful. The hotel arranged the taxis for us and always came to our door so it really felt effortless.

GermanyOK so this is a family hotel, but we were still surprised to be seemingly the ONLY guests without pre-school kids. The ambience at breakfast, dinner, and in general around the grounds was, um, as thus to be expected. Otherwise: the food was a little disappointing. We chose vegan options for breakfast and dinner, and, well: not so great. Would expect much better at this level.
Excellent room, views, service, facilities, grounds, and a very nice birthday cake surprise for one of us! Very thoughtful - thank you :)

United States of AmericaA little isolated on the far side of the Algarve which made it hard to tour the area and meant the sea water was super cold. Food was really good but better food could be found in the area for a fraction of the price. Kids club was great, but had very limited availability especially for ages 4-8 which is the sweet spot for kids wanting to do kids club
Amazing breakfast, great service, beautifully designed property, solid restaurants for a resort. Very kid friendly down to the last detail like having kids toilets and free kids entertainment during meals.

United Arab EmiratesHaving to prebook all the kids activities in advance. The restaurants are quite pricey and it really adds up if you stay a week. House keeping service could have been better, seemed very rushed and not very thorough. Additionally, there’s a lot of walking involved with a few hills etc so just something to be mindful of.
Great facilities to keep the children entertained for a week. A choice of pools and daily kids club activities. Beautifully kept grounds and lovely views from the property. The village square was excellent for the kids and adults with the play area and bar next to each other. We could enjoy sun downers while the kids kept themselves entertained. Food wise-I thoroughly enjoyed the Joseph Grill. Amazing roast chicken.
