“Of all the islands I visited Sao Jorge is the most rugged. Man has forged a living among the steep hills and the cliffs descending into the ocean. Here also the hotel has carved a space with wide views and with a garden that gradually gives way to nature. The rooms are self contained cottages made of rough volcanic stone, partly covered by moss. It is not a place for the disabled unfortunately, there are uneven stone paths and steep climbs. But the people are very nice and the food is superb.”
