Each review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.

The part of the hotel we stayed in was older. It had been renovated very nicely but it still felt aged.

The first room we were in, # 519. Toilet and sink overlapped each other in the bathroom. Had no room.
Food was good. The staff at 9-10 was great thanks to Angela and Jacob! Ryan at the desk was over the top exceptional !

The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, including the front desk, bellmen, valets and those people staffing the meeting room where our seminar was. Amenities in the seminar room were excellent as well. Our double room with ocean view was very spacious, clean and comfortable, including excellent blackout curtains for sleeping in. The room did include a refrigerator which was not mentioned on their website and which was a welcome feature. would recommend for a La Jolla stay.

It may seem petty, but they used a biological washing powder on the bedclothes, and caused some skin irritation.
I did not have breakfast, but the food and service at the restaurant was excellent.

Beds a bit out dated but okay.
Staff was amazing! Very helpful with any requests & answered our questions. Isabella was the definition of Top Customer Service! The cleaning crew were great as well! Would definitely recommend this hotel to others. Superior central location near ocean & restaurants.

There was a bad odor coming from the shower area, like a body odor smell which was unpleasant. House keeping doesn’t come clean the room unless you ask for it.
The Hotel was iconic and grand just as its namesake. Nice room, comfortable bed. Isabel helped us get a room next to our kids room which was so important. The valet guys were super friendly and always courteous.

There could have been better communication at check-in. The room was booked for three people, but when in the room, it was only set-up for two. When I pointed this out, staff said that room accommodates only two, then re-checked and realized it was for three. This should have been handled in advance. My 89-year old mother with a walker was visible upon check-in but no offer to help with bags to the room. Also only found out about the local golf cart service when we were having valet get the car to drive to dinner 3 1/2 block away. Would have been GREAT to know when checking in, as my mother was clearly disabled. We thus had to keep taking the car out to get around the small village. Staff also seemed a bit clueless about opening doors when they saw a guest with a walker - I opened the door for my mother to exit hotel, and an employee walked right through as I held it, unaware of guests.
The staff was very friendly. Rooms comfortable and well-appointed. Appreciated the housekeeping staff most.

The fan in the bathroom was VERY loud and annoying.
Our room, 412, had a perfect sunset view. The 2 queen beds were very comfortable and the pillows were nice also.
