To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):

When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.

United States of AmericaI should have known when the profile picture was the hotel sign that this was probably a mistake. I didn't even notice that they didn't have but one picture of the outside of the property. Unfortunately, I trusted the "Holiday Inn" brand and went ahead and booked the room for a one night stay in Ontario...big mistake. When I arrived I quickly found out that it was located in a undesirable area with sketchy individuals wandering nearby. The outside of the facility looked rough and the neighboring buildings looked even worse. I understand they were doing some construction to hopefully make the facility better but unless you're going to move the entire building to another location, it's only going to help so much. I understand there's a place for everyone one and each person's expectations are different but if you are looking for value for the money...this place is not it. The cost per night was high for the area and so my expectation was that this was going to be a nice place to stay. I feel like I'm pretty flexible when it comes to a facility not meeting expectations but this was more than I could handle. I tried to cancel the reservation as soon as I arrived which was around regular check-in time through booking.com and also reached out to the hotel directly...no chance. Even reached out to them to see if they would be willing to consider a refund because I was not staying there...no chance. It rare that a hotel will not work with unsatisfied guests so be warned before deciding to book your stay at this hotel. They didn't seem to be concerned about whether or not you are satisfied, they just want the money. A little advice...the other Holiday In "Express" in Ontario is much nicer. Even though it's only across the highway, it is in a much more favorable location and the facilities are much better.
They did a good job staging the pictures on the profile to make this place look nice.

United States of AmericaThe place looked like and had the feel as it was still under construction or extensive remodel. The restaurant was terrible. Zero atmosphere, food was bad, and the service was equally bad. and you got all that for an atrocious $53.00+ for a modest breakfast type meal for 2. In my business I travelled all over the northwest and stayed in many hotels. Holiday Inn ought to be ashamed. Stay Across the highway at the Holiday Inn Express.
