To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.

New ZealandNo communicaiton on the WiFi so we needed WiFi to find a good dinner spot and find a grocery store. But WiFi password was not provided. I had to email at 730pm and hope someone replied which they did half an hour when we had already gone out to find a place for dinner
It was good accommodation, good location however no reception. It’s all done electronically to check in and check out. If no staff at front desk, perhaps they can leave more information for people staying ie: recommendations on food nearby as we got in around 730ish when it was getting dark and we were hungry however was dark and a little intimidating walking around for people never been here before. Make it a bit more personal if no staff to ask questions.

We absolutely loved the location! Lots of great restaurants nearby and so close to everything a tourist wants to see. The hotel is beautifully kept and even though there are no staff (other than cleaning) on site, the response time for inquiries was good. We will be back.

CanadaCarpet needs replacing. Never having a live person to talk to was a learning curve along with the keyless entry. A bit intimidating, especially when you aren't a smart phone 'pro'.
Great location, our room was roomy with park and church views. Although there was no 'person' to chat with the communication when needed was pretty good, and we were able to store our luggage, both with our early arrival and when we checked out.

United States of AmericaA couple things- 1.) Pictures on the site makes room appear nicer than it actually is. The room and hotel itself felt dingy and it was obvious that they don’t have it in them to fix things up to feel nice. 2.)The lack of communication via this app about the fact that I couldn’t get clean towels after 3pm. 3.) The communication with the staff via text or the app was rude when I asked why they didn’t mention that in the lengthy text message they send to this app on booking and was told “not to trust 3rd party sites for accurate information”- when that’s how this stay was booked. I could have spent the same amount of money on a quality air bnb but booked this thinking it was clean and quaint when it felt gross.
It was very clear we were paying for the location because the room itself left a lot to be desired.

AustraliaThe hotel is not manned. You need an active smart phone with the OpenKey App to get access to the hotel AND your room. If your mobile phone is not active/working with the number you used to book, you cannot get in. This problem occurred to several guests during our stay. There is no receptionist/concierge on site to assist or answer questions about the hotel or about local amenities
The room was a good size, clean and well appointed. The location is excellent and close to buses, cable cars, and walking distance to Fisherman’s Wharf etc.

Needed to contact the emergency assistance after getting nowhere with the customer service team. Eventually spoke to someone who instructed us to get a key from a room in the lobby area, 3 hours after check in time, no late check out offered or anything else as a way of some compensation!! No staff are ever on reception.
Great location. Lots of restaurants,bars,cafes nearby. Nice area within walking distance of pier 39 . Coits tower is around the corner. Hotel is fine, cheaper than the average, decent room.
