Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

South AfricaPart of this was my fault, but at check-in it would be helpful for the front desk staff to ask if it is a group vs individuals registering. I should have directly told members of my delegation to WAIT before trying to check in (but we arrived late, and folks were tired). The logistics of check in lasted way too long and could have been simplified had I spoken to the manager first.
The location, price, facilities and genuinely attentive staff make this THE perfect place to stay with a group. The easy walk to the V&A Waterfront, the AMAZINGLY helpful staff, clean and secure environment are highlights. I also like the fact that this is a training center for the hospitality industry and there are many young folks at the front desk and throughout the property who are eager to assist and learn. Since 2001, I have benefited from bring groups to the Breakwater and it was always a good move.

ZimbabweRestricted breakfast time. We were on holiday and they serve breakfast up to 1000hrs. They cleared breakfast food by 1020 when we had walked in at 0950. They also didn’t have a shuttle service for 2 Oceans marathon runners despite having many runners at the hotel

South AfricaRoom was a bit shabby, aircon was broken and they tried to fix it - eventually moved rooms. When I was leaving I saw new people who were staying in the room trying to fix it so the hotel had not fixed it and rented the room out again - not good.
The location and the setting is great. Staff very helpful.

United Arab EmiratesWe've stayed in other Protea hotels and they all had a sign in the breakfast room not to put croissants in the toaster machine, because it will start a fire. This hotel didn't - and guess what - guests were putting the croissants in the machine and starting fires. The breakfast room staff was chill every time it happened, obviously a common occurrence. Why don't they just put up the sign??? Overall the staff in the breakfast room was too unbothered for my liking, like the tea / coffee coming after we've already finished, nobody really trying a little harder, etc.
The room was actually two rooms, so my teenage daughter was super thrilled to have her own private space. The location of the hotel is excellent, too.

United KingdomA lot of school trips like this hotel due to the great location and we were given a room right amongst them. The kids were loud and the noise kept going till late at night and started again early in the mornings when they go on their trips. Often got woken at 06:00 when they go on their school trips. Not ideal for a peaceful holiday.
Great location, staff and breakfast.

United KingdomThe hotel is used by a lot of schools and we were in a room amongst lots of school children who were very loud till late and they got up really early for school trips. This meant very little sleep for us as a family.

CanadaOne bed vibrated, maybe from a vent under the floor? Room felt simple, almost like a dorm room. Certainly not appropriate for the price paid. We had to have the keys reset multiple times as they stopped working almost daily. Masseuse at the spa was inexperienced. As part of room cleaning, they sprayed something smelly that got into all our clothes.
Location was excellent. Access to the dining room and room service was appreciated. Helpful staff. Clean water refills in reusable bottles was very much appreciated. Room was clean. Front of house help for arranging tours was great. Internet worked, mostly. My family and I felt safe.

United States of AmericaThe hotel is part of a college campus, we weren't expecting to be in a dorm-like setting. There was no common space in our two-bedroom unit, however, one could just hang out by the elevators.
The room was clean, our two-bedroom unit had one bathroom with a separate shower room, which was helpful when you're sharing. there was no common space to sit and talk. The room felt like being in a college dorm. The location was good, being walkable to the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront tourist area. The staff was friendly and accommodating when I needed to print my airline boarding passes.
