The hotel shuttle came and picked us up when the flight arrived at 10:00 pm. We did not have to wait for them. Then the driver helped us get a cell chip and exchanged money. The room was spacious, clean, and looked like the photos on the site. Breakfast was good and we did not get sick. We eat every meal there, desert were also good. Cheated our way through their miniature golf course on site. Pool looked clean but did not swim in pool. Small grocery store and ATM are close and in walking distance during the day. Staff was terrific. Owner came by many times. Good place to make your "home base". Flew in from CA and stayed for 2 days - Got picked up for tour south and west. Flew back to TRN from Morondava, stayed 2 days - Got picked up for tour to the east, came back for 1 day and they took us to the airport to fly back to CA at 9pm.

Recommend staying in larger hotels. Not easily walkable due to safety concerns and aggressive begging/selling everywhere. We became very ill after eating at two large hotels. Ensure use of only sealed water, even for personal care. Would plan for short stays in the capital, have transportation and activities preplanned. Air quality is very bad due to constant burning of fields. Three of four people in our group were robbed the first day they ventured out to the market nearby. Safety limited ability to explore the area. Traffic is horrible. Bring candy or school supplies if venturing into the countryside, and bring your generous heart, as a little goes very far here.

This is not a wealthy 1st world city, as long as you are happy with that, you will enjoy it.
There is a lot of old culture here, some local, and lots mainly from Colonial times.
Taxis....plenty, but negotiate the price first or you may regret it !. The city is very crowded, so it gets gridlocked easily.
Food...generally street food and smaller restaurants are very cheap, the local rums are to die for, and there are too many to ever try them all.
Bring Lomatil...this is a must.

The price is really reasonable and people and food are nice. Traffic and air condition are awful. It was my first visit to Africa so being there itself was really unusually nice but I think people like clean freaks might hate this city :)

Busy city but there’s not loads to do, a few days is perfect I stayed too long. Restaurants on the other hand were incredible. You do get hassled by people trying to make you buy things but if you’re polite but firm they will leave you alone after they’ve told you everything. It’s a fun place to experience a different market culture but as always beware of pickpockets

Tana shows the (great) poverty of the many, and the wealth...
Tana shows the (great) poverty of the many, and the wealth of the very few. Everywhere you go, the people try to make a living on the street, with little stalls or just a blanket, selling literally everything. Trips of about 5-6 km may take you well over two hours by car/taxi. Walking is not an alternative. The sheer amount of people on the streets during the day is just mind boggling.
Brilliant place. Everything is perfect. The basic rooms are new and with complete kitchens. The apartments are very large. Good Wi-Fi. TV had Canalplus. It’s safe with full time guards and a steel gate. Full time maids to clean the rooms every day. The owners are the best people I have met in Madagascar. Genuinely nice people. It’s a great find. There is also restaurants a bank and massage nearby. You can walk to downtown.
The manager is ingredibly helpful and helped us book tours, gave us tips on what to do and even helped us call to change our flights with Madagascar airlines when they canceled one of our flights (called them several times to give us different options). The whole staff is so helpful and sweet! Definitely stay here if you want a cozy place for a cheap price. Walking distance from many restaurants on trip advisors top 10.
Friendly and quite helpful staff, like anywhere in Madagascar people don't usually speak English, but they try their best to help you with everything. But I wish they could help us for transfer options to Ambanja which they could not understand us due to language barrier and we got into a real hassle with the trip and went with the worst one by ourselves , which I don't personally blame them for that.
Great Hotel in the centre. Historical building with a gym, spa, pool, restaurant, pastry shop and beautiful outdoor terrace. The staff are excellent, and treat you with so much respect and politeness. You can choose from a basic room if on a budget, right up to a modern or more luxurious room. They can organise a private driver to pick you up from the airport or take you anywhere you need to go.
It took us 2+ hrs to clear immigration, luggage, customs, and Covid at the Ivato airport…but the hotel shuttle bus was still there waiting for us when we finally made it outside! The hotel is close to the airport which was great after a very long journey to Madagascar. Hotel facilities are quite nice. There is a restaurant on property and breakfast was included in our stay.
The location is perfect if you are traveling the next day and want to avoid the traffic and hassle of Tana- the hotel is a 5 min drive from airport. The hotel also organizes a free transport to and from the airport. The staff is absolutely lovely and the rooms are beautiful and super clean. Can only highly recommend!
Amazing spot! Great value, some of the rooms have a balcony, view of different parts of Antananarivo. Probably the best place I stayed in on Madagascar.
Staff was super nice, and even prepared breakfast and lunch for me. The bathroom was super clean, with hot water on command, which can be a rarity in Mada!
Bed was comfortable and room was wide. Also there were many electric contacts where you can load phone, powerbanks etc, which is something special if we compare with other Madagascar hotels/lodges. Personal was friendly and accepted our crazy plans about checking out at night.
Pretty much everything was great.
The rooms are spacious with air conditioning and nice windows. The beds and pillows are cool and you have options.
Excellent wifi as well.
At least when you stay there you must eat. The food was the best in Madagascar.
Beautiful new hotel. Stylishly decorated & extremely spacious rooms. Great location near the airport with free transfers & local bus stop just outside. Would definitely recommend! They even held our luggage while we were traveling.
Location is great. With taxis outside the hotel. The Sauna and stream room and indoor pool is included in the room. They sell swimming gear in the hotel. Restaurant inside the hotel. Breakfast was great with strong coffee.
The hotel and the Service is amazing. However the windows are not good and it sounds like they are open because there is no sound isolation and the Hotel is in general ridcolously expensive for Madagascar.
Room was spacious and comfortable. Hot water in shower excellent. Window overlooked hotel front where traffic and people were heard throughout the stay. Staff very accommodating and helpful.
View was spectacular off the terrace and breakfast is huge! Room was spacious, comfortable and the shower was one of the best I've experienced in Madagascar.
