Accommodation in Zao Onsen

The location was absolutely breathtaking, we visited in autumn but I'm already planning my next visit for winter! The staff were so lovely and accommodating, not everyone spoke perfect english but they make a genuine effort to make us feel welcome none the less. I loved the onsen, we used the private and public facilities and found them so relaxing. We ate in the restaurant every morning and once for dinner, the food was so well done and we loved getting a taste of the local cuisine. Seriously 10/10 its not the cheapest stay but it is worth the price.

Great location, 5 mins by foot to the ski lift, great sauna, staff removed snow from my car, good breakfast, clean and quiet room, great view of the forest

This property was located a great location right opposite the ski lifts we had breakfast every day there the food was good and a mixture of western and Japanese. Keiko san looked after us very well.

The hotel was lovely and staff were excellent. Great location and an easy walk to the ski field and village for dinner. I stayed in a traditional Japanese room and the view of the village was beautiful. The staff were always helpful and very friendly. Highly recommend.

The location is good, there are many ramen restaurants and cafes around, and the food at the hotel's restaurant is also great. Clean and tidy. The staff service is very good, Can be said to be excellent service . Impeccable. There is also a very cute dog named Yuki.

A lovely traditional guest house in a beautiful traditional street with lovely staff

Good location to visit Lake Okama and to experience lovely outdoor Onsen in the nearby village. However the top reason to stay here is the wonderfully friendly owners and the beautiful food served for both dinner and breakfast. Simply lovely, helpful people. A fantastic experience not to be missed

It is one of the best places I have stayed at in my long life. It felt like home as soon as I stepped in. I left with regret and wished I could stay longer. Onsen power. Sober, airy style throughout, matching the pristine surrounding forests. Spacious rooms to sit, look within and finally rest. The common area is diverse. If I had been travelling with friends, I would have played babyfoot in armchair, or ping pong. The onsen is out of this world. Rejuvenation. You are not bothered by anything or anyone and yet you feel cared for.

So friendly staff with my little child, so grateful to them. Shampoo bar at the onsen was a nice surprise!

We have stayed for 6 nights including both breakfast and dinner, the food variety was great considering the long stay. We have different kind of dinners each night, including yonezawa beef BBQ， beef sukiyaki，pork, chicken and seafood hot pot, Steak, etc.. The indoor and outdoor Onsen help to relax after a long day ski! Staffs are very nice. The location is perfect, right opposite the main lift and about 15 mins walk to the historic Onsen street.

Yoshidaya was very authentic. Japanese rooms and bedding. Onsen on-site,min other hotels and public ones nearby a true blessing. Fantastic Japanese breakfasts. Really helpful owner and staff who were very good with us non-Japanese speakers. Really really enjoyed this stay

In the heart of Zao Onsen village and a short walk to the main "ropeway" or cable car. The room was beautiful with a table and cushionbs and a cupboard with futons to put out. We went western style and left our futons out all the time we were there and had some of the cushions as a makeshift bedhead against the cupboard. The food was absolutely amazing - we had a shabu shabu hot pot dinner that was cooked on our table and it was difficult to stop eating although despite the very generous serving. Breakfast was also plentiful and nutritiously so well balanced that we could go on skiing for hours without a break. The owner is charming and although we hired a local guide for going back country we should have just talked to the owner. He has been skiing is Zao all his life and was a champion giant slalom skier and is a volunteer search and rescue patrol guy too. The mother has a shop downstairs and her delicious sweet dumplings get sold out everyday. Don't worry about not having a private bathroom (I normally prefer this) as the facilities are scrupulously clean. There is a lovely communal bath (one for men, another for women) and the best onsen in town just opposite (free voucher available from the front desk). Felt really well looked after. Will definitely come back!! Zao Onsen is like a ghibli world. There are snow rabbits running about in the breathtaking scenery of the snow monsters and apparently giant foxes and (musasabi) giant flying squirrels with 1.6m wingspan (very rare to see though). Just lovely! Zao also has a new excellent music bar/restaurant called Takiyama Studio. The chefs drum and play guitiar and various instruments and a waitress sings - it was amazing, especially the qualilty of the waitresses singing and guitar playing. The chef's singing was not my cup of tea but he knew his way around an axe!

The hostel only opened in Jan 26 which is why they don’t have many reviews yet . I cannot reccommend it highly enough ! Around 5 minute walk from Zao Onsen bus station and less than 10 mins from the ski lifts. The staff are wonderful , English speaking too and the accommodation is cosy and very comfortable . There is a lovely public Onsen right next door

Excellent property. Comfortable stay, attentive and patient staff who anticipated and attended to our every need and request. Food was excellent and they accommodated my dietary restrictions and remembered them throughout my stay. Wonderful stay, highly recommend.

The hospitality and service provided by the staff - they sent us to the bus station when needed, allowed us to use the bath after coming from an overnight bus, and changed our rooms when the heater wasn't working.
