Stone Town

This is not a hotel – it's a hostel, and that should be made very clear in the property description. If you're expecting a hotel experience, you'll be very disappointed. The location is central and convenient, but you can't reach the property by car. You have to get out at a certain point and walk about 3 minutes through narrow streets. Arriving at night felt uncomfortable and unsafe. The staff are genuinely very kind and welcoming, which was one of the few positive aspects of our stay. Our room was on the first floor with windows facing the street. There was absolutely no privacy—people walking by could easily see into the room unless we kept the curtains closed all the time. The windows also provided virtually no sound insulation, so we could hear every conversation and all the street noise. There are mosque loudspeakers right next to the property, so expect to be woken up around 5:00 a.m. every morning. The breakfast was extremely basic, with very limited options. Overall, this place has the atmosphere and facilities of a backpackers' hostel, not a hotel. We feel the listing is misleading, and we would not have booked it had the property been presented more accurately.
