A beautiful and calm city, full of young people, interesting architecture, as old as newer buildings. Lots of bike paths for easier movement around the city. The only drawback is that everything is monolingual and it is difficult to find your way in some basic things, such as paying for parking. But there is always a good person to help.

City in its self was not as vibrant as was illustrated, for a collage town I had better expectations for the city in general. It felt more like catering to local tourists than anything else. Choices of food and restaurants were plenty however outrageously expensive. What I did enjoy was moving around Debrecen on the tram, literally takes you anywhere you need to be, including the famous spa's.

Typically charming Hungarian city. Amazing architecture and beautiful green areas. Easy to get around town by taxi, public transit or walking. Has many of the larger shops and restaurants one would also find in Budapest.

Vibrant town in Eastern Hungary, with long history, and modern vibe. Worth visiting for the main sights: the "big church" and the "big forest", Déri museum and the Zoo, but also for the nightlife and the cafés and restaurants. Easy access by train, plane and motorway, and a peaceful yet vibrant inner city with a nice pedestrian quarter. Good shopping in two plazas and some shopping centers outside of the city. There is also a theatre, the university with events going on, a health spa and aquatic wellness center and even a puppet theatre for the kids! Overall a great place to see.

This town is a must see! Wonderful museums (Agora, Modem, Déri), hidden gem cafes (Vintage World), thermal water (Aquaticum), concerts and other shows at the Kölcsey Cultural center, a walk in the Big Forest near the University or in the historic town center with amazing architecture and the emblematic Great Church. We shall return and spend some real time exploring!

Debrecen is a wonderful city to visit and live in. It has a charming mix of history, culture, and modern life. The city center is very walkable, with beautiful squares, cozy cafés, and the impressive Great Reformed Church as a landmark. Public transport is easy to use, and the tram line makes getting around the city straightforward. What makes Debrecen especially nice is its relaxed atmosphere compared to Budapest — it feels calm and welcoming, yet still lively with students and young people thanks to the University of Debrecen. The university itself and the surrounding park are absolutely worth a visit. For nature lovers, the Nagyerdő (Great Forest) area is perfect for walks, cycling, or just relaxing. There are also thermal baths and wellness options that make the city feel both vibrant and restful. Overall, Debrecen is a clean, friendly, and affordable city with plenty to see and do without the rush of a capital. A great choice whether you’re coming for study, work, or just a short trip.
