The village is charming, local people friendly and the food in the various establishments we visited outside our hotel very good. Well situated for access to ferries and bus service punctual and reliable. Water quality must be improved as often there was litter in the water, obviously brought in on the tides. While there is plenty of cleaning going on on the beach itself, the water problems need to be addressed
The island of Elba is stunning but very quiet. Procchio has little to offer outside of the few larger hotels. Having hired a car and been round the whole island I would recommend Porto Azzurro which has a beautiful marina location with a large number of bars and restaurants.
Cute place closed to Portoferraio - Palazzina dei Mulini, once the official residence of Napoleon (.... this place needs somebody to take care of it.... garden completely neglected ... Napoleon would definitely not be happy with how it looks now!)
We were researching Napoleon's time on Elba. We enjoyed visiting the palaces and places connected with him. Everyone we met on the island was most helpful. We greatly enjoyed restaurants at Marciana Marina (Rendez-Vous) and Rio Marina (Osteria Vento in Poppa). We had a very pleasant visit to the vineyard La Chiusa, and bought wine there. We climbed Monte Giove to the Santuario della Madonna del Monte and we went up in the Cabinovia (cable-car) to the summit of Monte Capanne. The Mineralogical Park and Museum are well worth a visit.
We loved it in procchio, the people were nice , beach 3 minute walk. With fantastic bars and restaurants. We tried scuba diving for first time at Elba diving. It was fantastic experience. And the sunsets were glorious. A must . ❤️❤️❤️
Beach restaurants need to be booked in advance. We followed a recommendation and booked the Tahiti restaurant. I had pre booked a lobster spaghetti which was far too salty and inedible. The language barrier made it too difficult to complain.
