Beaches

With its broad beaches of golden sand, windswept dunes and wooden piers, the Baltic coast knows how to turn on the charm. Here are some of the best Baltic beaches to visit when you’re in need of a coastal escape.

Sopot, Poland

Sopot is a sophisticated spa town which has a history of attracting a variety of visitors, including some royals. Nowadays, it’s becoming an increasingly popular holiday spot. Throughout the winter months, you may find a blanket of snow lying on the beach but when summer arrives, you can expect temperatures around 20ºC.

And as the sun comes out, so do the people. Feed the swans, take a dip in the ocean or take in the fresh, salty air while walking along Europe’s longest wooden pier. To rest, recline on the toasty, white sand and take in the view of yachts drifting along the bay.

Świnoujście, Poland

Świnoujście is a city and port on the Baltic Sea and the Szczecin Lagoon, located in the extreme northwest of Poland. With white sands and dark-blue sea, the city’s beach is perfect for a long walk as it seems to go on forever, broken up only by a white windmill on a breakwater and sailboats on the horizon. To freshen up after your walk, jump into the ocean in the swimming zone, then let the summer sun naturally dry you off.

Łeba, Poland

Sunny days filled with powdery white sands are what make Łeba feel like you’re on a tropical island. In fact, the beach’s landscape is so dramatic, it’s often referred to as ‘the Polish Sahara’.

The beach isn’t the only spectacle of this destination along the Baltic Coast either. You’ll also find Słowiński National Park near the beach. This park is super biodiverse, featuring picturesque habitats including lakes, forests and wetlands. Not to mention the park is also home to rare species of bird including the black stork – perfect for any avid birdwatchers.

Spend time playing beach volleyball, kite surfing, paddle boarding or swimming. If you prefer to stay on land, soak up the sun in a hammock hung between the nearby pine trees.

Pärnu, Estonia

Often referred to as Estonia’s summer capital, Pärnu is another great beach on the Baltic Coast with golden sands, coffee shops dotted along the coast and a variety of eateries to choose from.

With a lively feel to the beach, Pärnu is a popular spot for summer. In season you’ll find a variety of music festivals and other events, making for an energetic getaway.

You can access Jasmund a variety of ways, including a four-hour drive from Berlin or by catching the train from Berlin or Hamburg which takes around five hours.

Warnemünde, Germany

With fine white sands stretching beyond the horizon, Warnemünde is an excellent spot for relaxing or strolling. Paired with a lively promenade, you’ll be able to have a day filled with adventuring or sunbathing.

If you’re looking to spend your days sunbathing, stretching out on a Strandkorb is sure to do the trick. Literally translating to ‘beach basket’, this is a wicker basket beach chair with a hood, meaning whatever the weather, you’ll be able to relax in style.

End your days of exploring at the Warnemünde Lighthouse, where you’ll be able to soak in the views of the harbour. Spot ships, yachts and a bustling maritime atmosphere.
