FAQs about hotels on Rügen

The Island Of Many Faces

Germany’s largest island, Rügen, is situated just off the Pomeranian coast and boasts an abundance of bays, peninsulas and headlands. Its long, sandy beaches and the chalk cliffs of the Jasmund National Park add even more beauty to the mix.

Connected to the mainland by the Strelasund Crossing, which combines 2 modern bridge links, the island is over 51 km long and almost 43 km wide. It’s one of the most popular tourist destinations in Germany because of its watersports facilities, spas and lively piers.

You can get there not only by car but also by ferry, railway or even a charter flight from Berlin or Hamburg. Once arrived, you can choose between several resorts, the most popular of which are Schaabe, Glowe and Breege.

Rügen offers a really diverse landscape and something for every taste: from more crowded and vibrant seaside resorts to quieter and more contemplative villages. The island is mainly agricultural and fishing is its main focus. Therefore you can enjoy fresh herring or mackerel for your dinner!

With over 280 properties on the island of Rügen, Booking.com offers a wide choice between spa hotels, comfortable apartments and friendly guest houses, so dig in and find a perfect place for your holiday.

Planning a trip? Get inspired by reviews of cities on Rügen

Scored out of 10, guest rating 10

Binz is a both, sleepy and very touristy place.

Binz is a both, sleepy and very touristy place. We were there pre-season, so during the main season, this gets even more crowded and touristy. However, there are normal supermarkets, grocery stores, and drugstores to get your everyday needs. Everything is basically in walking distance. Binz does not have a lot of sights, but there is a main one: the beach. The beach has wonderful, fine, white sand and extends over a large stretch of the coastline. It offers enough space for visitors, so the beach may be busy, but it is usually not crowded. If you're looking for a nice place for a beach trip within Germany - this certainly is a good place to visit. There are the usual tourist traps, and restaurants also may be a bit more on the pricy side due to tourism, but overall this simply follows the pattern in other popular tourist destinations and is nothing that special. Binz is a place to visit, whether you stay there at the beach for a few days, or use it as a starting point to explore other parts of Rügen, the Swedish island of Bornholm, or some neighbouring places on the coast. You can also make trips into the nice city of Stralsund, the next larger city off the island. Active travellers may find their exploratory routes on the island or into Rügen's neighbourhood, while lazy travellers can simply enjoy the beaches and the variety of local restaurants. A good destination for families.

Great spot for Rugen region, extraordinary sunsets. If you want to learn kiting like me, I recommend it as the sport spots are few km away. If you take ferry, I recommend to check ferry running times. Dranske is cosy little town on the edge of German Baltic cost. Unfortunatelly I didnt see the Dranske beach, but I visited yet quiet but touristic Juliusruh on recommendation.

Binz is a beautiful, seaside town on the island of Rügen in northern Germany. People are friendly and the shopping is satisfying. There are many choices of restaurants, though they are fairly pricey. The beaches are gorgeous and you pay a Kurtax which gives you access to buses and bathrooms everywhere. The only thing missing are changing booths and showers - there are foot showers though.

The town is very beautiful - nature, architecture, the beach. It's just exceptional, so many places to enjoy! Restaurants are very expensive and the food is either mediocre or really bad. If you really like good food, I'd recommend purchasing products in supermarket and cook at home. Little fish shops with smoked fish is the best food this place has to offer in my opinion.
