This experience will begin with exclusive admission to the Doge’s Palace from a dedicated entrance, followed by an explanation from your guide about how the building has been the seat of the Venetian government and prisons for seven hundred years. Key sites at the Doge’s Palace include the armoury, the Bridge of Sighs and the Hall of the Great Council, filled with frescoes by the Italian painters Veronese and Tintoretto.
After a 15-minute break, you’ll have the opportunity to visit St Mark’s Basilica after its closing time. In a small group, you’ll have the time to appreciate the Byzantine altarpiece, the crypt and beautifully illuminated mosaics. Your guide will tell you the story of the basilica’s foundation and explain where the decorative marbles come from.
