Comfortable, clean room with tree and mountain views in a charming guest house in small village near Quillan. Michele, the very friendly host made us very welcome and served a great breakfast next morning.

Axat is tiny, but still has all the essentials. Easy walk to shops. Also great loop walk from the doorstep (Sentiers de Train). Velobikes from the train station, two minutes from the house. Tourist train only, so not noisy. Great accommodation, well equipped. Thoughtful touches such as plug adapters for UK travellers. Easy run to Rennes Le Chateau or Montsegur. Big Lidl supermarket at Limoux, or smaller one at Quillan, where there's a good Saturday market. Also extensive fun market at Esperaza on a Sunday. Private garden with lots of sitting places. The river Aude runs right next to the garden, so you can watch the wildlife with a coffee. Local English speaking very helpful caretaker. Very highly recommended.
