Clear and dark (Bortle 1) skies, absolutely perfect for astrophotography. The high elevation (1400-1500 m) also helped to increase the astronomical "seeing" and clarity. Marina was very accomodating to my need for 24/7 power at my telescope and even had a temporary gate erected around it for protection from any roaming livestock. Their cats are also very friendly, one of them staying in my room for company all night long :).

Oupoort Eco is the ideal place to relax and relieve yourself from all daily stress. The location to be when you're looking for digital detox, as well as going back to the past. For those worrying about the feedback, there is an open air office area where there is Wi-Fi. And there is also light from solar panels. The hosts are very friendly and willing to assist you in either way, from scenic drives over the farm area, night drives to try to find porcupine and aardvark (no guarantee, it's real wildlife), or some of their delicious karoo lamb chops or fresh eggs. Would definitely advise the location when you're looking for an outback adventure.

The cottage was private, yet close to the sheep on this small working farm. Hanli and Thuys are really warm hearted owners. The place is quiet and serene. I found it peaceful and enjoyed my birthday there as well with a lovely box of chocolates from the thoughtful hosts. On my last night I heard a jackal cry. Nature is marvellous.
