Set 10 km from Siti Nurbaya Bridge and 47 km from Mount Talang, Mila Homestay features accommodation situated in Padang. There is free private parking and the property offers paid airport shuttle service. I don't even know where to start: this is THE place to be when you visit Padang! The host Dila is incredibly sweet and welcoming. She makes you feel at home right away. She knows where to take her guests for local and cheap food, and she even knows some good options for vegetarians. Dila knows many hidden gems in and around Padang and she takes beautiful pictures and amazing videos of the places that she visits with her guests. The room is clean, and breakfast very tasty. I only stayed one night, but Dila already feels like a friend. I highly recommend her place to stay. The accomodation is outside of the center of town but don't let it stop you from staying there. You can tell he really cares about his guests. The room and bathroom are very clean and comfortable. The food is incredible too (plenty of vegan and vegetarian options)! I did a 2 night jungle trek with them as well and everything was very well organised, great food and fruit on the trek, comfortable campsites by the river and close to a waterfall. You could tell that the guide really enjoyed being in nature, he had so much knowledge about the animals and plants and made us feel really safe. I got a bee sting and he had magic oil that made the sting disappear in just 30 min! I had a really great stay and trek with Brian and his team and definitely recommend them and would definitely come back one day! :)

For our family, Bukit Lawang was absolutely one of the best places best have ever been. The stay at Jungle Life Guesthouse was superb. We ended up staying 2 weeks, so we got a much fuller cultural experience getting to know the owners. Alek is very friendly and enthusiastic, and Nabil was very attentive and helpful. They were great organizers of our 2-day jungle trek. (Which can be physically challenging, but if our nearly 60 year old mom can do it, so can you!) They were hosts who went out of their way for us on multiple occasions. We loved our experience at jungle life guest house and hope to be back.

Rooms have a balcony with mountain views. Words can’t fully express how amazing our experience at Lucky Bamboo was. Johny, Kela, Obi, and their family (yes, even the family dog that we love) made us feel like we were reconnecting with long-lost relatives. It was truly one of those magical travel experiences that remind us why we love exploring the world. The three days we spent there flew by in the blink of an eye. The jungle trek with Kela was unforgettable—he knows the forest like the back of his hand and shared so much fascinating information with us. He answered all our questions with incredible patience and made sure we were well taken care of the entire time. The way he prepared our fruits and meals was fantastic. Ending the trek with a river journey back was the cherry on top of an already perfect experience. We’re so glad we did it! As for the room, if you need a bit more space, definitely ask Johny for Room 1—it’s perfect for two. Yes, it can be a little damp, especially during the rainy season, but that’s part of the charm of staying in a bamboo hut surrounded by nature. The room was clean, and while there’s only cold water, it felt perfect for the natural setting. What was really important for us was that they had a mosquito net! Plus, the family-like atmosphere more than made up for any small inconveniences—we wouldn’t trade it for anything. If you’re open to trying local breakfast options, they source delicious lontong sayur and other local dishes. The family truly goes above and beyond to make your stay comfortable—you just need to ask. Lucky Bamboo was hands down the best highlight of our Sumatra trip. We can’t wait to come back! P.s did I even mention they have the loveliest garden?
