This one night stopover was exactly what we hoped for on our long journey back from Spain. This was a real 'home from home'. Set in the countryside just outside the nearest village and being only 10-15 mins off our main route north, this was ideal for us. Laurent our host was very welcoming and looked after us. Breakfast was a good continental breakfast with lots of options and he set it all in place for us so that we could leave at a time convenient for us. We hope to stay here again on a future journey but perhaps stay for more than one night so that we can explore some of the local area

Domaine de Chantermaile is one of those hidden gems that make you keep using Booking. It's a natural paradise, surrounded by forest and horses, quiet yet very well communicated to the stunning town of Angouleme, where you can get lost in its cobbled streets around the historic town center. The space itself is minimalistic and exquisitely decorated, using rural elements and natural materials to create harmony in the room. The natural light available and the quieteness of the surroundings will ensure you the best night's sleep. You wake up in the morning to be welcomed by a carefully prepared breakfast, that includes fresh fruit and juices in season, coffee, homemade jams, butter, croissants and the best french bread. The common area where breakfast is served is close to the kitchen, with all the necessary appliances to make the best meal, if that's what you wanted to do. The people who run this place really care for it and have a solid philosophy behind it. I couldn't recommend it enough and I only hope to be able to return soon.

There was no breakfast - not a problem because we were not expecting one. Host did leave coffee/tea/brioche buns and cold water, so this was welcome. We stayed at the height of the heatwave and Josee had done evrything she could to keep the accommodation as cool as possible, so this was greatly appreciated. the best thing was the stone floor downstairs which cooled you down from the feet upwards!

host Veronica is very supportive (gave us extras) and ready to help in English (!!!) even if you are late (yes, we were trapped in traffic jams). location is 20 min drive to Angouleme and 30 min to Cognac. The place is very authentic and excellent value for the money. PET FRIENDLY!!!

The night we stayed, we were lucky enough to have the run of the whole house as there were no other guests staying. The beds were comfy, breakfast was delicious and hosts were friendly and welcoming.
