I had the pleasure of staying at this charming small castle with a rich history spanning over 200 years, and it was truly a delightful experience. The moment I arrived, the host welcomed me warmly and made me feel right at home. The highlight of my stay was undoubtedly the lovely donkey that resides in the garden. It added a unique and endearing touch to the castle’s ambiance. Spending time in the garden, getting to know the donkey, and enjoying the tranquil surroundings was a memorable part of my visit.

Loved staying here. We were sad to leave after 2 nights. you could easily spend a couple of days just reading and relaxing in the house and garden. It's a fascinating area geologically - the tuffeau limestone, into which the house and outbuildings is partially built and out of which parts of the garden have been created, is just wonderful, imparting a beautiful, honey coloured light in the early evening. The owners have created a mini Eden in terms of capitalising on the different zones in the garden - even in the height of summer, I suspect you will be able to find a cool place to sit. It's the place to spend an evening drinking a sparkling Saumur wine and smelling the heady scent of curry plants and roses.

I can't begin to describe how amazing this place is. From the communication before arrival to the actual stay itself, everything was perfect. The hosts are so friendly; we were given a lovely tour including the troglodytic caves and an explanation of the history of the site. It's FASCINATING! We were even told to help ourselves to the delicious fresh herbs growing in their garden and to use their washing line, if we needed. The gite itself was immaculately clean and well though-out. The bed was soooo comfortable and there was even a window looking into one of the cellars, complete with original wine-making machinery. The pool is a real highlight; heated, big enough (and deep enough) to properly swim in and with a toilet, shower and changing room. A perfect spot to laze around in the sun! The area is beautiful with a huge number of things to do. Gorgeous Saumur is only 10-15 minutes away and has everything you could need including some great restaurants. We are very much planning a return trip to En Rou Libre. There are lots of things in the area we still want to do and we have never stayed in such a perfect place. Thank-you to the family for such a wonderful holiday!

Really quiet, very comfy bed and shutters to block out the light so we slept really well. The kitchen was well equipped. It was very private with all the windows looking out onto our terrace. We also appreciated the electric car charging and the location just 15 minutes from the Loire.
