Spotless cleaning, really. Beautiful traditional location, with a farmyard in the back. Great beds and cutlery. Freshly baked bread every morning. Great olive oil extracted locally. Soap made with local donkey milk. Very friendly owners, they offered a bottle of wine as a welcome gift and catered for a meal as we arrived late in the evening. Showed us the donkeys (Burricos de Miranda) and give us invaluable tips on what to see and where to eat. Taught us about the local traditions and invited us over to stay for the "pauliteiros" performance on the local holy day / holiday (feast of St Barbara in Atenor). The kids loved playing with the friendly dogs (Madonna, Uva and Silva) that live in the property; Uva and Silva are of a local breed (Castro Laboreiro Dog). Very nice little village around (Atenor) for a stroll.

In a quiet settlement, an old house that has been very carefully renovated. Clean, fully equipped kitchen. The hostess is very kind and helpful. The breakfast is very plentiful, fresh warm bread every morning. Nearby is a fantastic vantage point for the valley of the Douro River.

We were traveling from USA and Sweden, and struggling with our very few words of Portuguese that we knew. The staff was really great to us and helped us along. Dinner service was lovely. An English speaking staff member helped us with the menu and recommended some fantastic meals and a local wine. When we checked in, the man helping us heard we were going hiking and recommended a lot of wonderful hikes for us. It was a really great experience and exceeded our expectations- all thanks to the staff.

The location of this property was perfect-a quiet small town with friendly people and close to great hiking trails.

The house is located in the heart of a traditional Portuguese village and had everything for our comfort including delicious homemade cakes and bread baked in the village. The refrigerator was stocked with all that we needed for a substantial breakfast including fresh melon with mint, oranges for juice, ham, cheese, yoghurts and homemade preserves which we enjoyed under a fig tree in the private patio area. It was very hot when we stayed but the house has airco in both the bedrooms and living room. Picote is well located for exploring Tras os Montes and neighbouring Spain. Margarida and Antonio could not have been more kind and considerate and we hope to return soon.
