The little apartment is actually a house, on two levels, bedroom and bathroom with shower and WC being on the ground level (also having an entrance from outside), upstairs the large space consisting of kitchen, livingroom area with a foldable dinner table. The kitchen is fully equipped, you´ll miss nothing: olive oil, milk, local honey, etc. The washing machine was a great help for us and the house was really lovely. Rosa was lovely, helped us with anything we needed (although we didn´t speak the same language), the locally made breads she gave us were absolutely delicious! When we ran out of breadspread she gave us her own, that´s how nice the locals are there. At the upstairs entrance there´s a little terrace with a table and two chairs, it was also our space where the cats of the vecinity came for the daily food we gave them and kept us company for the breakfasts and dinners we had outdoors. Very polite cats, very beautiful and quiet sitting area. All citrus trees were full of ripe fruit around the house, the Magnolia blooming (15-19.03.24), a dream... There´s one bar close to the accomodation, inside the bar you´ll find the one and only local shop providing the basics (their coffee is very good and the people very friendly and open). It´s a small, quiet and beautiful village with only 90 inhabitants, go visit it and talk to the locals working at the bar in the evenings, they speak great English and will tell you a lot about the history and culture of the area. It´s close to the nature park so you can get anywhere you need by car.

I truly have nothing but good things to say about this hostel and the host Margarida. The place is super lovely, welcoming, clean, and spacious. Lots of equipment for example in the kitchen, nice location with mountain view. And Margarida is super nice, helpful and just a very decent person who even helped me when I got sick and needed medicine.

We have just stayed at Casa dos Mouros for 5 nights and we can highly recommend this accommodation for a base in this region for hiking. We thought we’d booked a whole house according to the description, but it’s actually a maisonette – the ground level first floor of a house. It’s very well equipped with everything you need in a kitchen. There’s also a separate lockable room with cleaning equipment, washing machine, garden furniture, BBQ, drying rack and basic supplies like kitchen paper and toilet paper. The oven works on a timer system which worked well once we’d figured it out (turn the knob on the left a full turn clockwise and the oven comes on). There’s a basic coffee machine, orange juicer, toaster, kettle, hob, hand blender and plenty of pots and pans. There’s an iron and ironing board in the double bedroom wardrobe. When we arrived, the upstairs neighbours showed us where to park and said (in Portuguese) to knock on their door if we needed anything. Another neighbour gave us fresh vegetables so we were made to feel very welcome. There is a brilliant bakery just a couple of minutes walk away, with a retail bakery shop a bit further down the hill. There’s a hotel at the top of the hill on the main road a couple of minutes walk from the property, where you can enjoy drinks on the terrace. We followed the instructions on the YouTube video sent to us prior to arrival. It showed where the house was located and how to retrieve the keys. The road is very narrow and it’s a tight left hand turn, be aware of bikes whizzing down the hill on the left side of you as you make the turn. There are lovely walks from the property, plus a lovely swim spot just 15 minutes or so up the hill on the left hand side. The bed was very comfortable, with good pillows and plenty of extra blankets. The shower was hot and the towels fresh and white. The standard of accommodation is very good, with free internet included. Definitely recommend!
