Evan’s Head is a beautiful unspoilt town. The unfortunate part of our stay was our accomodation so I strongly suggest looking for alternative to the motel. If the motel Is rated 3 stars I was shudder to think what 2 stars gets you.
My wife and I really liked Evans Head and will be returning. We knew nothing about it before our stay but now have added it to our list of possible future retirement spots. The town was nice and compact, not too busy. The beaches were lovely.
Great for couples or family. Close to beach, good walking-running tracks, bike riding good, canoeing fishing in river great, Chinamens beach and Snapper rock great tranquil place to picnic, walk, surf or fish.
Beautiful town, quiet but with very good supermarket. Beautiful surf beach, safe and suitable for children. River mouth is walking distance, amazing fews and clear water. I was recommended to stay here (on road trip from Melbourne to Cairns) rather than other larger towns in the vicinity- This was good advice. No traffic issues and no crowds (late November). This is an attractive, unpretentious beach town off the tourist trail which is why I like it. No high rise, no flashy resorts. A true Australian beach experience - None of the Noosa nonsense.
A very family orientated and quiet place. It was like travelling back to the 1950s when camping grounds were common on the Gold and Sunshine Coasts. They have mostly disappeared in lieu of high rise apartments so it is nice to have such facilities available these days. As Evans Head is not right on the highway, it has no through traffic which makes it very attractive for those wanting a quiet holiday.
We've been to Evans Head quite a few times and love it's typical "seaside holiday" feel. Having the river inlet and the surf beaches allows everyone to find something to do - surfing, swimming, fishing, boating, etc and the calm water of the inlet is popular with families for the young kids to swim safely in. Getting around is very easy as it's not that big, you can walk most places. We ate at the Illawong Hotel one night, the Sandbar restaurant one night and Heng Lee Chinese Restaurant the other night and the food was great at all of them. We like walking out along the breakwalls and along Main Beach. You can also take your 4WD onto the beach at Airforce Beach and drive all the way up to South Ballina and the dogs can go on the beach there too.
