Bruges is a lovely city with a quaint and authentic feel. It is peaceful and indulgent and fills you with magic. Having been a few times my feeling however is that the magic of Bruges exists all year round and the fact it was Christmas time whilst adding extra atmosphere was somewhat offset by how busy it was throughout. I would instead maybe go in Spring or Summer months, or during the week over the Christmas period if possible.
Charming town with great walks and better beer! Definitely do the Halve Maan brewery tour. Walk out to the windmills and back along the canal. Bus #1 gets you from the train station to the Grote Markt in a few minutes. Everyone speaks English. Christmas Markets were fun. Eating outside in December was a treat. Would love to go back in summer.
The city has such amazing architecture but is really busy with (mostly UK) tourists, which can leave it feeling a bit like a theme park! Small enough to walk everywhere, brewery tour was great and boat trip worthwhile. If you like beer and/or chocolate you can’t go wrong here! Can be expensive to eat out in or near the centre, but some of the side streets hold hidden gem restaurants offering much better value Overall a great place for a weekend break which everyone should visit at least once in their life!
Bruges was fantastic, lovely place with incredible sights, food and beer. Don’t go there if you’re on a diet because between the waffle, chocolate and beer tastings you will be ready to explode each day. We were there while the Xmas market was in full force and it was a remarkable spectacle. Historium was a great place to visit along with the bell tower. The beer tasting at the beer wall was a perfect way to end our first day with 4 distinct local beers served with salty nuts and cheese. Bruges is a must see!!
Beautiful place to visit! Love the canals & seeing the windmills. Great shops & cafes/restaurants. It was fun to wander the streets & see the market square, Christmas market, museums & the architecture.
Beautiful town with plenty of beautiful architecture and mid-top end shopping. If your thinking about spending one of your days in Gent, don’t. Stay in Brugge. Tourists attraction are pretty expensive though. If you don’t want tourist trap chocolates and want chocolate that is actually made in Brugge look for the sign that is a cocoa bean with a “b”, with wings and in a red banner says “gilde van de brugse chocolatiers” the sign is on the front door of the shops.

This place is truly magical. A full three floors to ourselves, every room immaculately decorated and maintained, gorgeous breakfast baskets, perfect location and phenomenal service and attention from the owners. Easily the best B&B I’ve stayed at, and great value for money compared to hotel prices in Bruges. Quick tip for anyone coming to stay here - the big ‘candle’ in the living room is LED and made of plastic (it lights up with a switch on the bottom), don’t try to light it with a match like we did :-P.
