Excellent city centre location. No parking or stopping area which was awkward for pick ups and drop offs. We had a studio apartment which was very well appointed, comfortable and nicely decorated. Also a good sized bathroom . The kitchen area was very well equipped. We looked onto Argyll Street which was quiet in February but probably noisy later in the year.check in was online and we had door codes for the front door and our apartment which worked well. The cleaning staff were very helpful, with fresh towels and sheets as needed. Laundry facilities available.

We can't say enough good things about the Coastal Inn. The staff were so kind. I recently had knee surgery and they offered us an accessible room, an earlier checkin and kept our freezer packs for my knee in their freezer.

Halifax is vibrant in the summer - and somewhat small.

Halifax is vibrant in the summer - and somewhat small. Loads of places to drink - but quite limited for children in the winter months. Far better in the summer. But after Discovery Center, pool time, a sports game, maybe a movie at Parklane.....only if they have a good kid's one playing - there isn't much excitement really for children. You must be creative. Check out if the Oval is open. Get a terrific breakfast sandwich at Rudy's. Live music at The Carleton. & let the kids run at Discovery Center.

I mainly stuck to downtown but I'd say Halifax is a great spot to visit. The city's downtown area is SUPER easy for newcomers to figure out and navigate, I had pretty much the entire 20-minute stretch surrounding the hostel I was staying at memorized after like a half hour of walking around, to the point I didn't even need to dig out Google Maps when I walked down to the Scotiabank Centre for the The Used concert. For food, I didn't go to any restaurants. I just stocked up on pre-made meals from the Superstore on Barrington St and snacks from the Park Lane Mall Dollarama, so I don't have any recommendations for food spots, unfortunately. But there were a lot of spots that I saw that looked very interesting that I want to try next time I'm in Halifax. My favourite places in Halifax were this little retro video game and trading card shop downtown called The Deck Box, and obviously the venue where I finally got to see my favourite band of all time, The Used, perform live, the Scotiabank Centre.

We are only an hour from Halifax but enjoy our stays in the city. Halifax has so much to offer. Terrific restaurants, beautiful waterfront and lots of entertainment and cultural experiences. We often come to take in concerts, plays at Neptune theatre or one of the awesome Candlelight Concerts.

Halifax drivers are the worst.

Halifax drivers are the worst. I am more comfortable driving in Toronto or Montreal than this east coast town. Hotel prices are atrocious. The airport is a long way out of town. The only way to do this place is on a cruise ship. The attitude here seems to be - this is the last place you can go because the Atlantic Ocean is your only other option!

We loved the fact that Halifax was central for touring in our rental car. We especially loved Peggy‘s Cove and Lunenburg. In the city itself, we enjoyed the citadel, the Maritime Museum and the wharf area.

So much to see and do in downtown Halifax.

So much to see and do in downtown Halifax. The mixture of restored historical buildings alongside modern new ones is well done. Lots of good food at moderate prices ruined with 25% more in taxes. Be aware that the airport is rather distant from the city.

We parked in Scotia Square nearby and walked with our luggage but you can drop luggage at the front door in Barrington Street and then park if you prefer, It's great that the restaurant and bar Temp is now fully open again. Overall this is a great downtown location and great value. We stay here quite often when we visit Halifax.
