This is a quintessentially traditional village nestled in nature. As the sole visitor that day, I was warmly welcomed by Gustavo's family. Gustavo took me on a four-hour exploration of the rainforest, solely to search for monkeys and witness exotic flora—a truly rewarding trek! The village children were utterly adorable, and we later gathered by the river to watch the sunset. While the accommodation didn't match hotel standards, the traditional village's environment was already quite comfortable. Each room featured a private bathroom and water containers for showers, with mosquito nets ensuring a worry-free sleep.

Absolute paradise, the lodges were beautiful, lots of care taken to ensure they were clean and decorated well, and right in the middle of the jungle. The tours were super easy to organise and the food was great too.

From the moment we were greeted at the riverside by our host upon arrival, until the moment we left, we have been treated with kindness and warmth by our host, his family and the wider community. You see that the community is keen to have tourists stay in Macedonia such that they can then use the funds to progress their community projects. For this reason alone I’d recommend this as a base from which to explore the Amazon rather than staying in Leticia. Sure you could get on a group tour from Leticia which herds you quickly through the various communities on the river but you’d be missing out on so much and only a small portion of your funds would be directly helping this community. Lie back in a hammock, listen to the forest and escape the bustle of everyday life. Highly recommend the tours they run. No agencies are involved, our host just gets the locals with the relevant expertise to conduct the tour / activity. There were only ever the 2 of us on any given tour / activity and we did many of them including night walk, animal sanctuaries, fishing, visit to see the sloths, way of life experience etc so you really are getting the personal touch. Our host provided boots for the muddier walks, good binoculars when needed and flashlights. If you are here on a weekend make sure you are around one of the afternoons to watch the community football and volleyball - Great fun. The heat and mosquitos were no way near as bad as we were expecting but we did take the standard recommended precautions (hats, long sleeves, mosi repellant etc). The meals are expertly prepared and delicious. Recommend to bring good earplugs, roosters wake up early! Muchas Gracias!!!!

My stay at Casa Jaguar in Macedonia was absolutely fantastic. The all-inclusive package for breakfast, lunch, and dinner cost just $4, featuring fresh ingredients and generous portions. Juan and his family—along with their two adorable children—were exceptionally kind. I particularly loved their daughter Honey, who was as sweet as honey and incredibly charming. At 4 PM, I took a boat ride with the Juan to a nearby island, where we enjoyed plenty of fresh fruits for a truly unique experience. I highly recommend spending two days here; Juan will also arrange affordable jungle hikes and other exploration activities at great value.

You'll live in the middle of a national park, with the local indigenous Mocagua community 40 minutes away by foot as the next village. You'll be fully immersed in the life in the jungle, with John and his family taking excellent care of you. The activities are great as well - we focused on hikes and boat tours. The price of activities might seem high, but they are organised just for you.

German and his family are amazing hosts, so friendly and genuinely care so much about your experience there. The community is beautiful and very peaceful, and the house is lovely, with great spots for relaxing and delicious homecooked food. The activities are really varied and interesting and German will happily build you an itinerary based off what you want to do. Staying a night in the jungle is an absolute must - our guide Matú was very competent, knowledgeable, and kind. The prices are also super low, and yet this was one of the most special holidays we've ever had. We had such an insanely wonderful time staying here, I cannot recommend it enough!!

Spent 4 nights here and had a brilliant time. Mocagua is a little paradise on the Amazon river and La Ceiba is a perfect base to soak it in and explore the area. Maria arranged a guide for us (he met us in Leticia - it’s quite awkward to get to boat terminal etc so having someone local made it a lot easier, his name was Romain and was brilliant). Loads of activities to do and the food was simple but delicious- if you are hungry between meals can go and grab a fresh sweet mango that has fallen off a tree! Rooms are basic (no air con and limited electricity) but this adds to the authenticity of the experience. I’d definitely recommend La Ceiba to experience La Amazonas.

Amazing place in a beautiful location. The staff was super friendly and helpful. They helped us organize the boat to get to Reserva and back to Leticia. We did several additional tours with them, exploring the Amazon jungle and the surroundings. They care deeply about local communities. Food was great, two of us were vegans and they adjusted all meals for us so it wasn't an issue. The non-vegan part of our group was also extremely pleased with food, especially with the fish, served in a variety of ways. It is a quiet place, you get to connect with other travelers. Totally the best way to explore the Amazon.
