Villa Marala is very beautiful, new, clean, smells nice, has a great view and a really nice pool. The staff was exceptional, the receptionists we dealt with were informative, friendly, spoke man languages and were very accommodating. We asked for a late checkout and the hotel was so gracious that we got to leave 2 hours later since my travel companion wasn't feeling well the day we were supposed to leave, but felt much better later. White face monkeys wake you up and you can see them from your balcony. For some this might be a minus, for us it was a plus since we don't have them at home it was very cool to see them running around. But they don't linger for long so don't worry. The view from the hotel is BEAUTIFUL. You see the ocean and on the other side the jungle. You're near the main road and don't nee a 4x4 to get to the hotel but it's separate enough that you don't feel unsafe. There's plenty of parking, so no need to worry if you bring a car. The beach near the hotel is very nice. It has waves but they're not too bad, but you definitely need to know how to swim if you want to take a dip. The receptionist told us there i a natural pool on the beach where kids and non swimmers can swim, but since we enjoy waves we didn't check it out. Personally, we loved the food in town and would go there to grab a bite if we ever returned to CR.

I picked this place for 3 days total relaxation at the end of a 3 week adventure holiday in Costa Rica as it's within a reasonable drive of SJO airport and it was just what I wanted. It has excellent access to the beach and there are birds and other wildlife around the property, Scarlet Macaws were present, up to 5 at a time for us. The place has it's own bar/restaurant which is good as it is fairly isolated with a long walk or short drive to any other establishments. The staff and owner are very welcoming and helpfull. We had a sea view room which I recommend.

The huts were part of the environment. There were plants and animals and birds everywhere. We loved the outdoor cooking and eating areas and the outdoor showers. The owner was very helpful and obviously loved his lodge and Costa Rica

Terrific location on the beach. Unbelievable sunsets every night, beautiful warm water. The hotel has a beautiful central "hub" with dining room, bar, reception, and colonial winding staircase under a vaulted wooden roof and open windows letting in the sea breeze. It's peaceful, only 17 rooms, and on a quiet beachfront road. No nightlife, traffic, or loud ambient music, just as we liked it. Staff were friendly and chill. The pool was beautiful and sizeable with plenty of loungers. Location was really quite convenient, half an hour to Jaco where we took surf lessons and one hour the other way to Manuel Antonio. A shopping centre (Westernized $$$) on the main road had all the essentials and several restaurants. But you wouldn't want to walk there in the heat, it would be a solid half hour. Definitely rent a car if you're coming here.

Esterillos centre, west and east are isolated from each...

Esterillos centre, west and east are isolated from each other by river estuaries. possibly crossable on foot at low tide but look for crocs. West has more shops and bars than centre which has one, don't know about east. All with good beaches tho and very relaxing.

Small town with everything you need within walking distance. Nice beach with natural baths. Local Attraction: Siren sitting on a shell in the ocean. At low tide, you can walk up to it and take a picture.

Right on the beach!

Right on the beach! We had lots of fun swimming, great sunrise and sunsets! We like the fact that we were off the beaten path. I don't think we ever saw more than 20-30 people on the beach the entire time we were there. Charlie dont surf, but every morning there were about 5-10 surfers doin what surfers do most were gone by 8am.

We loved our little hotel just off the highway. It was easy to get to and bordering a lovely town. We spent our days exploring down the coast and heading back at night. The staff were lovely and did everything to make sure we were well looked after and I loved the focus on the animals, lovely cats and dogs and a beautiful environment with the wildlife around.

Hotel is on a hill just off the highway with views of the surrounding area including the pacific. Has a couple of swimming pools, one of which is an infinity pool with swim up bar. Plenty of sitting areas facing the ocean. Food was very good.

Tropical garden, open air restaurant and good kitchen. Playa Esterillos (reachable in 5 minutes by foot) is wide and long and clean, with stunning sunsets. Wave are moderate, for surf beginners.
