We stayed during the worst rain event in recent history so we were stuck in the room most of our trip and they couldn’t have been more accommodating. We had to change dates due to road outages and they were very helpful. They brought us warm muffins one day and were always asking how they could help. Even in the rain, the view was so pretty. Every time the rain let up, even if only for a few minutes, you could start to see the birds and butterflies and one very funny squirrel. The bed was comfortable and even with the dampness of the weather, there was no musty smell, which in CR is really something. The room was so clean and smelled so fresh. Now the highlight of our day was the breakfast! Different every day and fresh and really yummy! The staff is so friendly and helpful. Even the owner came out every morning to chat and ask how he could help with our day. I highly recommend this place and would love to return when it’s sunny!!! lol

The location has an awesome view, the hosts were exceptionally gracious nod if I had a question they were very helpful. The host picked me up at the airport even after I had been in immigration line for over an hour he still waited. When I come back I will stay again.

The apartment was charming, with big rooms and very nicely equipped with all that ylu might need. The view is wonderful and so are the hosts. We went on a trip with friends and needed to leave the car behind after checkout and the hosts were so nice and polite to keep the car with our belongings safe in the meantime! Would come again for sure!

The whole place is stunning. You can enjoy a beautiful sunrise while enjoying your morning coffee at the tower and if it is not raining in the afternoon, you will be rewarded with an amazing sunset. There is a large variety of tropical fruit trees and beautiful plants all over the property. Many different species of birds can be heard singing and can be seen flashing their colors if you find time to take notice. The room is very cute and clean. All the amenities works perfectly. The hosts( consists of their whole family) are outstanding. Luis and Norman are super helpful, very generous, friendly and kind. They make every effort to make you feel comfortable and enjoy your stay. It was the perfect place for my small family to rest and recharge. My kids loved hanging out at the spacious porch and playing football by the lawn. We will definitely come back again.

We visited Poas Volcano, the only tickets we could buy were...

We visited Poas Volcano, the only tickets we could buy were for 9.30am (bought online). When we arrived you couldn’t see anything the clouds were low and it was damp and cold. We decided to walk the route anyway, we then went for a coffee (very expensive and weak, they advertise WiFi but there is none so don’t be fooled). After coffee (approximately midday) the clouds started lifting so we walked back up the trail to the crater and the lagoon. It is well worth waiting around for the clouds to clear (although I’m told they don’t always). We had a perfect view of an active volcano spewing out sulphur gasses and glowing green/yellow, you can see where the lava has previously flowed. The lagoon was also worth revisiting. Lots of locals just walk the trails early and leave but if you’ve never seen an active volcano it’s well worth waiting around and hoping the clouds will lift. Not a full day out but well worth doing. Whilst in Grecia we also visited a coffee tour with Tio Jose just outside Grecia. Jose is very passionate about his family farm and putting to good use all the byproducts coffee roasting creates, making jams, coffee tea and flour for baking. He was very patient answering my many questions. My husband is a coffee fan (I’m not) but I found this tour very informative and interesting. Again not a full day out but if you’ve got a few hours to spare it’s worth doing we enjoyed Jose’s enthusiasm and his English is very good.

Grecia is a wonderful little town.

Grecia is a wonderful little town. I was here to find a new home so I was looking throughout the area and visited Atenas and Naranjo as well. We decided on a place near Naranjo. In Grecia I ate at several local Sodas which were fantastic and a more upscale restaurant called Bariles which was fantastic. POPs ice cream shop is also highly recommended. In Atenas I ate at a really good Italian restaurant called Firenze. The Pasta Puttanesca was cooked to perfection. When driving watch for motorcycles.

The town might appeal to some, but it's not my cup of tea...

The town might appeal to some, but it's not my cup of tea for CR. High population density, loud, lots of traffic. The main town square, around the park and church, isn't as peaceful as other CR towns and there were numerous panhandlers. We didn't find any stores or places to eat worth mentioning.

Grecia is a very good base to visit the area.

Grecia is a very good base to visit the area. Very clean, and reasonable priced. We took the local bus everywhere and it was very doable. Also you can find a lots of tours, or a local can drive you at a very reasonable price.

The people are very cordial and helpful.

The people are very cordial and helpful. The town has most of the amenities that one would look for in a foreign country. We enjoyed eating at Cafe Delicias #1. We were able to navigate in a car after we discovered the one way streets and the parking rules. We are not young people, I am 82 and my wife is 78. We are looking forward to spending at least 6 months next year living in the area.

Grecia was not as expected from literature I read because of it's size and amount of traffic. The main down town area was very busy with bad sidewalks which made walking the town difficult. Lovely cathedral and park and great restaurants. Local people were friendly and helpful. We ate at Los Barriles twice because the food was so delicious and very reasonably priced. La Terraza Bed & Breakfast was the nicest hotel we stayed at in the Grecia area.

We had a wonderful time in Hotel Mango Valley. The owners were very friendly and took care of all our needs. The breakfast was freshly prepared and was served on a patio with a wonderful view. Our bungalow was clean and even equipped with a little kitchenette.
