Good location if you have a car, with excellent restaurants within 5-15mins driving. Walk to beach pleasant across mangrove swamp on raised walkway. Owner and staff very pleasant, knowledgeable of area, and helpful. Restaurant area good place to relax during day with a beer or coffee. Not open for dinner although this may be changing. Accommodations very attractive, clean and well maintained although bathroom lighting in our unit at least was inadequate. Good size bathroom with lots of hot water for shower.

The hotel was awesome! we loved the pool and all the wildlife. The owners and staff made us feel right at home and took excellent care of us, even helped us find a car to rent while we were there. Cj met us there upon our arrival and was kind enough to take me to a restaurant to get food for my wife and son. 10 out of 10 would recommend! we will definitely be staying here on our next visit to Avellanas.

The staff, the hotel, the room, the garden and especially the restaurant. We loved Plata Negra beach, as well. We liked it all! Highly recommended stay at this modern newly renovated hotel! The food is exquisite, and all the staff is very friendly and helpful. They have a nice pool and an even nicer garden. We would like to return and stay longer at this hotel.

We had so much fun here on a weekend getaway. The hosts Karin and Oliver were wonderful. It was lovely to see someone living out their dreams! We happened to be there on a weekend where they were hosting a circus retreat and ended with a show and bbq, then live cuban band. We also tried the trapeze which none of us had ever had the opportunity to do. Who would have thought we'd do it near a remote beach in Costa Rica? We had a great time!

Very well maintained property up in the hills near the Avellanas area. You’re in the mountains but close to the beach, so it’s a perfect balance. Feels isolated but you’re actually a short drive from all the area’s spots. Cabins are very well appointed, comfortable and private. Owner/Manager is very involved and available.

We had the two bedroom villa with the terrace in between (villa 1). We loved having the two separate areas. One bedroom had the two twin beds, tv and kitchen and the second areas was the queen bed and bathroom. The shower is outside and I was a little wary about that but it was fine…very private. The pool is glorious and very clean. The grounds are immaculate. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. We are just learning Spanish so we did need our handy translator to communicate 😊

Wonderful stay! Clean, spacious rooms, with private deck, sitting area/hammock, and breakfast included every morning! Josue and the rest of the staff were so welcoming, helpful and accommodating! As a woman traveling alone, I felt safe, secure and cared for. The location was perfect, a peaceful walk, crosses a bridge through the mangroves to a gorgeous beach. It was one of the loveliest vacation stays I have ever experienced. Highly recommend! Tyy I’ll definitely be recommending this gem of a place to my friends and fam. Until next time!! Xoxo Giselle

I liked the small town feel of the area.

I liked the small town feel of the area. I didn't go explore much as we were there for only two days. I wanted to spend time at the actual lodge. There were many tour options, and one could fill a whole month here and still not do everything. Looking forward to returning.

We stayed in a really nice african hut.

We stayed in a really nice african hut. It had a little kitchen and a good shower. The balcony was nice to sit in the evening. The only minus was the bed. This needs to be replaced in my opinion.The food in the restaurant is really good. A little tip we got from the owners was to go to the turtle reffuge on the beach a little further down to the left, as they release the newborns everyday around 5 in the evening. So sunset and turtles!!! If you are lucky.

Playa Blanca is a beautiful beach.

Playa Blanca is a beautiful beach. You can reach it by coming from Paraiso, turning right onto Calle de Esperanza, and driving until you reach a small, guarded parking lot on the left. Lochito's is a good restaurant; for something rustic, inexpensive, and good, try Caribeno.
