Facing the Gulf of Nicoya in Quizales Beach, Tango Mar Beachfront Boutique Hotel & Villas has its own private beach area and outdoors pool. Free Wi-Fi connection is possible throughout. Super friendly and helpful staff especially Rosabel at the front desk. She is very knowledgeable and helped us out multiple times. Loved her. I’ve never stay at a hotel where the owner of the hotel/reaort comes and greet everyone in person everyday. Not only they greet all their customer everyday, they also greets their staff with respect and love.

Tambor's Bahia Ballina is a beautiful setting with calmer water than S and W Nicoya Peninsula beaches. Excellent water for families with young children and older folks not wanting the challenges presented by rough surf. Quaint fishing village offers variety of fresh fish. Easy access to airport, ferry and car rental.
Tambor is a true Costa Rican town, not one sanitized for tourists. We stopped for a swim as the bay is protected and shallow so great for swimming unlike much of this coast. The Curu wildlife refuge is nearby and has some good walks on various trails where we saw lots of capuchin monkeys, raccoons, deer, coati and various birds.
We had an oceanfront room - just what I would recommend so that nothing is between you and the sound and sight of the ocean surf. We loved the bird watching. The restaurant was delicious and so easy - I didn't miss going out anywhere else when I could eat great food overlooking the water. We even saw a turtle bury her eggs in the sand and return to the water all from our seats at breakfast!
It was a terrible experience. Dirty rooms with mold and the shower head wouldn't even stay on the wall . Food was terrible drinks were terrible . We spent way to much per night for what this place offered and wish we had never gone . It was the worst part of our trip to Costa Rica . We hated it so much we left a day early and went back to our original place we were staying at just so we could have a good time and relaxed rest of our stay with friendly people and good food because Barcelo tambor attracts nothing but unruly kids and people that are extremely unfriendly . I would never stay at this place again if someone paid me .
Very small place, great beach but not much to do, not many restaurant options (pizza, fancy hotel and Christina's, where we stayed). If we had stayed here longer we would have spent a lot of time in the car exploring (on not great roads)
quiet community, some good food choices, friendly people, basic sandy beach. (less hectic than montezuma nearby). one downside is extremely rough gravel road for an hour or so (the rest is paved) , for those like us travelling south on the Nicoya peninsula. ferry from puntarenas likely a better choice.

The local knowledge of the owner and his partner made the first four days of our time in Costa Rica perfect. They treat the facilities more like a home than a place to rent. From what to see and where rent etc it was great. The “hotel” was immaculate. The attention to detail in landscaping, the buildings made it obvious the whole place has a vision. It’s quiet, clean and relaxing. Could not have been a better place to start our trip. It’s a must stay place.

The villas are spacious, quiet in a lovely rural setting. Howler monkeys in the distance and hundreds of birds. We happened to be staying at the property when there were no other guests. It felt like our own piece of heaven. We had 4 hammocks with our villa to choose from - lovely set up!
