Having travelled through Europe for 30+ years, this was my ideal, perfect, stop over. Absolutely spot on. Exactly what I'm hoping for when traveling. Germany is a safe bet when it comes to cleanliness and good food served without any extra frills, just plain good food, so choosing a good hotel or Gasthof is not much of a gamble. But this place was, for me, extraordinary. It had a wonderful restaurant which included the reception. A very kind and considerate lady welcomed me and followed me to my room. A huge one that was super fresh but still genuine. She told me that her son was the 5th generation running the Gasthof and also informed which waiter was the best in English for my upcoming dinner. So a shower and then into the rustic and lovely Gasthof restaurant. I had tonights special which was veal schnitzel and it was PERFECT together with a glass of Riesling. Just sitting there and enjoying the atmosphere. Next day I met the owner, the son in the house, and complemented him for this achievement. I'd recommend this gasthof/hotel to anyone. Absolutely ideal. It only took 30 years to find it. :-) Another bonus is that coming from Stockholm there is one main obstacle you want to avoid. The traffic jams of Hamburg and in particular the Elbes tunnel. In best case it's an extra 30 mins but during holidays and rush hour it can be very daunting. I found this hotel on Booking and choose it because it seemed fresh and was just south of the Elbe river so that next day I would have passed it and have a fresh start continuing south to Alsace. It's a 1000 kms drive from Stockholm and some kms before Hamburg centre my GPS showed me an alternative route. It took me through smaller streets but I was running and I crossed the Elbe via bridges and found this Gasthof in Hohenluft. And it was great to get going without any traffic jam worries.

Premium looking interior like a nice apartment, memory foam bed mattresses, blistering and wonderful bathroom. Can’t ask for more, it stunned me positively. Looked way more premium than I expected from a location like it. Also a wonderful bakery on the opposite site of the street, and a great Lidl supermarket.

The hotel is run by a family, and that is clearly visible. There is a lovely atmosphere and the staff are very pleasant. The room and bathroom were beautiful, comfortable, modern and spotless.
