Whilst at a trade fair in the Messe for 6 days I also planned a trip into Stuttgart to visit Mercedes and Porsche museums. Both were easily accessible from the Airport/Messe train system and worth visiting if you like your car history.

Excellent transport system. The Red bus tour is not very exciting, I would recommend the Green tour rather than the Blue tour. Whilst the main shopping district is excellent and very extensive, it is very difficult to find a location which is simple a bar as opposed to a restaurant. The main museum in the castle is well worth a visit. The tourist office is excellent and should be the first stop for anyone visiting Stuttgart. Try the Block Steakhouse located on the main square opposite the train station, excellent food.

A boon for petrol heads. You may visit Mercedes-Benz and Porsche museums. Major reconstruction going on at Stuttgart Central Station. Approximately 500 m walk from the train platforms to the station concourse/lobby. But it is well covered to protect users from the weather elements.

I was underwhelmed by this city.
I was underwhelmed by this city. Otherwise than the Mercedes and Porsche museums (which I didn’t visit), it seems just full of high street shops and fast food restaurants. Perhaps it’s green spaces make it more pleasant in summer (I visited in October). Good public transport, though.

The city is easy to get around on S-bahn & Underground (U). I arrived via rail, sadly the main station is still a building site and somewhat of a trial to negotiate. To get to the hotel use U12, only one stop to Budapester Platz, then a few steps to a lift that takes you down to street level where you find the hotel entrance. Close-by from the U station is an indoor shopping centre called Milaneo with a good mix of shops and food stalls. Also close-by of the U station are few Italian restaurants worth visiting. The Mercedes Museum is worth a visit and easily reached on the S-bahn, plus a short walk. Allow around 2 hours in the museum to enjoy the many exhibits. Finally re the hotel, the rooms are modern and well appointed, the bed is very comfortable. I was on the 9th floor and had a great view of the trains coming and goings. Sound proofing is good so there is no noice from the station or other rooms. The included breakfast has plenty of choice and was very welcome.

Stuttgart is a beautiful city. I love visiting galleries and there are two key galleries that are well worth visiting. Stuttgart is easy to get around and there is a helpful tourist information office just opposite the central train station.

Free baby cot, nice and clean, they even provide pillow and a duvet for kids. Small kitchenette with a sink (running hot water, which is great for washing bottles!), a small microwave (MAM bottles won’t fit to be sterilized), a small fridge and a spacious kitchen worktop.
