Germany’s oldest city and a provincial capital of the Western Roman Empire until the 3rd century, Trier is overflowing with exquisite architecture and Roman ruins such as the Amphitheater and Porta Nigra gate. The colossal Cathedral Trier is also the oldest of its kind in Germany.
The historic landmarks continue with the 2nd-century Roman bridge that crosses over the Moselle River, which also passes through nearby Luxembourg and France. Cruises along the Moselle start in Koblenz and end in Trier.
Trier was the home of Karl Marx and the 15th-century University of Trier is home to a large student population that often refers to the university as Karl-Marx-University of Trier. His birthplace is now a museum, Karl Marx House.
A wonderful example of the Christmas markets in Germany can be found each year in Trier, at Hauptmarkt Square in front of the cathedral. Make sure you check Booking.com for special deals on hotels during this period.

Trier is an interesting town, however be aware all the facilities & services you might be familiar with & expecting, may not be available. Such as; taxi, Uber, restaurants open outside of regular hours - these may all be an issue, according to what we experienced.
Some of this was due to Christmas & New Years limited hours and services. Taxis and Uber-type services are an issue, and appear unreliable.

I love Roman history so Trier was a must-see for me.
I love Roman history so Trier was a must-see for me. The main tourist attractions are easily searchable online but the city is small enough to be completely walkable. I was there at the end of November and there were already Christmas markets set up which was fun to walk around - buy the Glühwein (mulled wine) if you're there at that time.
You have to eat at Weinstube Zum Domstein! They have traditional Roman food offerings which were delicious. I loved the meal so much, especially sitting in the Roman Basement (Römer Keller) where they have displayed Roman artifacts. Such a cool dining experience.

Trier is quaint and manageable for a small city.
Trier is quaint and manageable for a small city. Friendly and hospitable locals. There were enough English-speaking workers in various establishments. I enjoyed the walking trails. The city has a lot to offer for Roman history enthusiasts. It has a far reaching and interesting history as a city in its own right.

Trier is a beautiful town with historical buildings and a lot of interesting things to see and do!
Everything is close together in walking distance!
Nice restaurants with traditional food and friendly service. Lots of shopping options for all wallets and interests. Town maps and signs all over the town are helping to find what you want.
We loved the market squares and the Weinbrunnen in the middle where you get a lovely glass of wine most hours!

The city is very historic and was not overrun by tourists at the time of our visit. We stayed two days and nights and were able to see the old town and Roman amphitheater, baths and Porta Nigra, on top of the main two cathedrals and main square and shopping. The city seems very safe and easy to access by walking or bicycling. As with other cities we visited during our two-week Germany trip, we parked the car and walked or took public transportation.

A beautiful historic city with plenty of sights to occupy visitors. Easily walkable and plenty of cafes, bars and restaurants. One of the nicest places I’ve been to in Europe & I can’t understand why it is so off the tourist track really.
I would love to return !
The location is wonderful. It is just outside the hustle and bustle of the city so it's nice and quiet, with a fantastic view of the city and easy parking but still very close. Our host was so friendly and helpful. She had very good English and gave us a map of Trier and showed us things to go see and where to park and recommended a very delicious restaurant. The rooms were a good size with balconies. Other reviewers complained about the older furniture but we thought it just added charm. It is a lovely hotel and we would recommend it.
This is an well fitted hotel, in the town center, at a walkable distance from the old/touristic zone (as its” name suggests), with a safe parking and a homy breakfast room (and good and various dishes). The rooms and bathrooms are spacious and spotless clean, with comfortable beds. The courtesy of the personnel completed our short but very pleasant stay in the so beautiful town of Trier. With its reach history, Trier deserves at least 2 or 3 days to learn about the two thousands life of the oldest city in Germany.
It’s a lovely hotel in a quiet location with amble parking but it is very popular. My single room was adequate, well furnished with an interesting shower arrangement. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful and the restaurant food is excellent but it is busy so book a table early. It’s about 25 minutes walking to Trier itself. The best bit for me was the on site brewery which makes a range of excellent beers that guests can purchase at good prices.
Perfect hotel for a short stay in Trier. The beds are comfortable and the bathrooms recently remodeled. There is a lovely downstairs area for breakfast and a lot of really nice new seating outside and a bar for drinks and relaxation. The staff was very nice - especially the woman with the long black hair at reception (her name escapes me!). The hotel is in an excellent location, central to all of the sites. I would not hesitate to stay here again.
A simple, stylish hotel room within an easy walk to the main square of Trier. Comfortable room, spacious enough to accommodate all our luggage, good beds and pillows, a window that opened. Paid parking under the hotel with easy access to lobby and rooms. We received a very warm welcome from the young man on the front desk who was very personable and had a good sense of humour. An excellent overnight stop.
Breakfast is exceptional, so are the various hotel restaurants. Very courteous and professional staff, with no exception. Although the city centre is not in walking distance, Trier’s excellent public transit allowed us to get around easily. There’s a bus stop in very close proximity to the hotel; it takes 10-15 minutes to get to the city centre. We happily abstained from using our car.
The location was perfect. Just on the corner we could already visit this roman ruïne and museum. And close to the shops, restaurants and other historical places as well. Our room was big and with a nice view. Great service of the hotel when we had to check out at 11am, but still wanted to visit Trier, we were allowed to let our car parked at the special parking until we went home!
Staff is very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was reasonable, however without any variation. The view towards the Trier city centre from the hotel is very nice ! Also walking distance towards the historical centre is nice. A small sitting area with the prescribed view to have a drink is nice. The environemnt around the hotel has a lot of possibilities for drinks and food.
It was really wonderful experience to stay in this beautiful hotel.Romantic location, nice view, close to the supermarket and bus stop. The owners of the hotel do their best for the guests. The room was clean, comfortable with everything you need.Breakfast was delicious!
We will definitely stay their once we are in Trier.
A very fair priced, small boutique hotel,at the center of the city of Trier, clean, warm, with very good and polite personnel and room service the only negative point is that has no parking space .A must for young people couples or small budget travellers .Wish to come back soon.wir werden wieder sehen.
Nicest room we've had so far. Clean, comfortable and located perfectly. Staff was great. Very helpful to Americans that were fairly new to the area. Hotel was very historic. Some of the walls were 1500 years old but incredibly modernized in the rooms. Breakfast was terrific
The hotel is located in a very nice part of town and offers a beautiful view of the surrounding area (as the name implies). The staff is very friendly and kind. The breakfast is a home made breakfast and they can adjust it to your dietary needs and wishes.
Location, location, location. This hotel is a short walk from the train station and puts you right in the center of town where you will want to be to see the sites of Trier. The staff was extremely helpful and the breakfast was pretty good too.
The communication from the hotel staff before our arrival was excellent. Very clear instructions on how to get in hotel should we arrive after reception time. Also great Instructions which bus to take from train station.
Although directly at the station in Trier, it was very quiet.
The bed was perfect.
The clerk at the desk was very nice, but we were too early for check in. After midnight we checked in via the machine, which was easy.
