A Unique and Wonderful Stay in a Former Prison! We had a fantastic stay at this beautifully designed hotel, located in a historic former prison. The mix of modern comfort with the character of the old building is truly impressive. The staff were friendly and welcoming, making us feel right at home from the moment we arrived. The breakfast was absolutely delicious—plentiful, varied, and full of fresh options to start the day right. We also really appreciated that our bicycles were safely stored in the secure courtyard, which is locked in the evenings and overnight. One of the best parts: you can walk straight from the hotel into the charming old town of Wismar. The location couldn't be better. Highly recommended for anyone looking for something a little different.

Wismar did not offer much in the way of attraction as a tourist, and the main waterfront, is part of a commerial harbour (wood and metal processing). It makes for a good starting point to visit the island of Poel

Wismar has a gorgeous historic old town and harbour area that is worth a visit. Beautiful buildings, a lot of restaurants with a great selection of food, beaches and nature closely. There are a lot of choice in fresh seafood and we found it hard to make a decision about where to eat because there was such a great selection. The old town and harbour area are easy walking distance from each other - we walked everywhere. A great short stay although we can imaging visiting for a week or longer because there are so many amazing things to do in the area

Compact city (old part) easy for walking.

Compact city (old part) easy for walking. Sights are close to the train station. Enjoyed most walking along quaint cobblestone streets with ambient lighting (romantic). Beautifully restored gable-house style buildings. Plenty of helpful direction signs to sights. Enjoyed visiting and observing harbor activities. Eat freshly caught seafood at harbor. Nice walk along Wismarer Bay to Bad Wendorf (closest beach).

This is an old town in former east Germany.

This is an old town in former east Germany. It was a key port on the Hanseatic League. The Hanseatic League,[a] commonly called The Hansa, was a medieval commercial and defensive network of merchant guilds and market towns in Central and Northern Europe. Growing from Lübeck and a few other North German towns in the late 12th century, the League expanded between the 13th and 15th centuries and ultimately encompassed nearly 200 settlements across eight modern-day countries, ranging from what is now Estonia in the northeast to the Netherlands in the west, and extended inland as far south as Cologne, and Kraków, Poland. If you're interested in history this is a place to go.

One more comment about the Altstadt apartment: check-in is...

One more comment about the Altstadt apartment: check-in is not allowed until 4p.m. And you don't find that out til after you have paid. We had to while away an hour in a coffee shop, surrounded by our suitcases, as we had already arranged to arrive about 3, which has been the latest check-in time everywhere we've stayed before.

Fantastic town to visit, wonderful buildings and...

Fantastic town to visit, wonderful buildings and architecture, Beautiful and compact sea port with harbour tours and an amazing fish restaurant. Plenty of good restaurants but would highly recommend the restaurant 'Alte Schwede' in the market square. Several very large church buildings with amazing architecture. The town has a very interesting history which is reflected in buildings to be seen.

The hotel staff kindly provided us with a baby cot free of charge. The breakfast exceeded all expectations and included many varieties of bread, fresh waffles, fruits, and juices. In honor of Easter, children were treated to chocolate bunnies. The hotel has its own private parking, although street parking is also available. The room was small but comfortable, with two bathrooms and a great variety of lighting options.

a hotel with a long history located in the middle of the old town of wismar breakfast offer on a very high level of middle European breakfasts :-) bathroom very large and excellently equipped one of the best hotels I ever booked

The room was big and clean. We parked the car in front of the entrance, which was convenient. There is a nice medieval church to see in the village and a fantastic city of Schwerin nearby. Also a great place to visit Wismar from.
