Everything was amazing . Right in the heart of Cuenca this hotel is the best choice ! Located in a beautiful colonial style old mansion I had a room in the backyard which was very quiet and comfortable. Breakfast had a great choice . What an amazing place! The saddest part of our stay was leaving and only having the opportunity to stay for a single night, if time had allowed, we would have stayed a week! The location is perfect for the old historic centre, the cathedral is an easy walk, so much of the historic centre is walkable from here. The staff were so incredible!!! So kind and helpful, with great English and knowledge to share. Nothing was too much trouble, from extra coffee, so booking taxis and restaurants. The breakfast was one of the best meals we've eaten in Ecuador (and we have eaten very well in this country! - but this was a REALLY great way to start our day!) The Tigrillo was a really fabulous Ecuadorian breakfast cooked and presented beautifully. This is such a beautiful property, very well maintained and full of gorgeous murals on the walls, the roof terrace boasts a stunning view of the city sky line and the garden is a wonderful place to enjoy the breakfast. If we get the chance to return to Cuenca, this is the place we will stay for sure, and the place I would recommend to any friends who plan this trip!

My review is based on the fact that I may be moving here...

My review is based on the fact that I may be moving here permanently. The city is a bit big for my preferences, but even as such it offers a great deal to do and to enjoy. There are plenty of museums and places to walk, lots of restaurants, but I am not a tourist. Cuenca's sweet, springlike weather year round is lovely but it's high. If you're not used to altitude you need to be prepared. It is a rich tapestry of color and people. Please bring respect for the culture and an interest in mastering some of the language, it's the attempt that counts. I am also here for the horse riding in the Tarqui.

Cuenca is a fun and cute city.

Cuenca is a fun and cute city. It has the colonial town feel of other Latin American towns. I was there on a holiday weekend so the nightlife felt busy and fun. There are a lot of fun daytime excursions and things to see and do. 3 or 4 days is a great amount of time to see the city.

The city has beautiful architecture.

The city has beautiful architecture. I really enjoyed walking in the downtown. Churches are awesome and offer great artistic designs. Pumapungo Museum, and the Museum of the Aboriginal Cultures generate an immersive historical knowledge, both are remarkable. The people is very polite. I recommend to visit Cuenca.

This historic city is known for its architecture and friendly people. The local food is delicious and very reasonably priced both in the markets and in the restaurants. Taxis are metered and very inexpensive. You will be surrounded by mountains and fascinated by the four rivers that flow through the city.

We love Cuenca.

We love Cuenca. Certainly Ecuador's most beautiful large city. Best city for fine dining in Ecuador. Beautiful colonial architecture. Beautiful public parks and gardens. Easy to get around. Friendly people.

The hotel is called Hotel Balcon del Arte. The entrance is set back from the street. I arrived late and was let in by the nightwatchman and given my room key directly. My street facing room was lovely. Large, clean and a comfortable bed. The bathroom was functional and clean. The shower was not always hot. Good wi-fi signal. Situated centrally, it was an easy walk to restaurants, shops and museums. The ladies who were on reception were friendly and helpful. Good value for money.
