La Casona de Betanzos is offering accommodations in Betanzos. The property has a garden, as well as a terrace. Both free WiFi and private parking are available at the guest house. They own and manage a bar / restaurant across the road. You have to try their "tortilla de betanzos" and gheir pulpo.
Beautiful old city with great architecture and lively nightlife. The Camino Inglés winds through the city, making it especially convenient for those walking that pilgrimage route to Santiago. We happened to be there during tortilla celebration week, and the Betanzos tortillas are a speciality. Best hint - find the small cafe/bars located through the “arches” in narrow streets just off the main plaza.
The three famous churches - Santiago, Sta. Maria Azogue and San Francisco - are a must, as is Sto. Domingo on the main square. The bars across from there are an excellent starting point for an evening out, and a warren of narrow streets off this square will satisfy any gourmet's demands, from fast food to tapas to traditional Gallega and modern Iberian cuisine - all washed down with local VT Betanzos. Betanzos boasts a particularly handsome townscape, with good shopping, and is well worth exploring.
The old town was the draw card & it was well worth coming for. However some parts of the old city were in a very bad condition with abandoned & collapsing buildings. I was surprised that the City Fathers could not look after their 'jewel' better. The receptionist in our hotel was the President of the Historical Society & she was quite distressed about it.
