There is not alot to Fonfria. It is essentially one big farmyard and smells like one too. It is, however very peaceful and a convenient stop on the Camino. Casa Nunez has a great communal meal in a great round room.
Fonfria is a very small old town where you feel like you're stepping back in time. On a previous trip to Spain and going through Fonfria, we had coffee outside a cafe as cows were slowly herded past our tables on the road, and a woman offered us homemade pancakes as we trudged through town, weary from the long walk (camino). On this trip, we took an evening stroll before retiring for evening, and enjoyed the slow pace and taking in the beautiful surroundings, including an old church in town and the beautiful forests and hills around the town.
