This is a hidden gem, Its only two and a half hours drive from the Costa Blanca, but its a world of difference. Is main claim to fame is its impressive architectural wonders.. The churches are built mainly in a mixed Spanish Moorish style, called Mudejar, and they are some of the best examples in Spain of this style. There are also a lot of regional style buildings in the well proportioned city centre. Many are bars and eating places offering a mixture of local and regional fare. On the outskirts of the city is Dinopolis, a dinosaur theme park with an added educational element. Well worth the drive for this alone. Its a mixture of rides and cinema presentations along with hands on exhibits and demonstrations of real life fossil conservation. It also forms the hub of a number of satellite exhibitions in the surrounding region.
only here as an overnight on our journey to costa Blanca and picked at random as near main road south and about halfway. beautiful town lots to see and do we must make a proper return and spend a few days
We thought the town itself was a little strange, after driving around and around we managed to find one little supermarket which was open and just one cafe which had no food and was rammed full. It was Sunday, however, so maybe this was the reason
A very clean and quiet small city. People very friendly. Don´t forget to try the "jamon" for which Teruel is famous. Go to Torico square in the evenings and sit in any of the terraces to watch people strolling and try some tapas (don`t forget the jamon)
Although Teruel like many places, is steeped in medieval history there was not enough historical remains to interest us to stay more than one day. The food of the area was very average, nothing special. The countryside going south west has more to offer.
I had never been to Teruel and did not know of this lovely city until I had to go to the airport there for work. The city is charming and beautiful with lovely places to visit and an abundance of dining facilities. I will be going back for a longer period of time.
