We absolutely loved our stay at Stephanie’s home stay, Vinna and Robert were exceptional hosts, going above and beyond to help us. We called Vinna a day before our check in date to ask if we could come a day earlier (weren’t sleeping well in previous accommodation) and this was no problem at all. Robert picked us up from our previous accommodation and drove us to their home stay, giving us a little tour of Matei on the way. Vinna has got a small business where she cooks Fijian meals with lovely local ingredients and delivers them to home stays in Matei. We had Vinna’s meals most of the nights of our stay and they were delicious, she’s an excellent chef! She brought the meals up to our door and straight on the table :) All of this was a very reasonable price too. Vinna was also very involved helping us to figure out transport around Taveuni, responding to our messages and phone calls and coming up to talk to us in person. On our last day Robert took us out snorkelling in his boat to some reefs of the north of Matei. We spent 3 hours snorkelling seeing the amazing underwater life :)) In the evening Vinna booked us a table at a local restaurant that was serving Lovo (we’d previously said we’d love to try it!) This was also incredible, Lovo by the sea watching Fijian dancing. The morning of our flight back Vinna washed some of our clothes and put them out to dry for us :) Robert then took us to the airport, loading and unloading our bags. We could not recommend Stephanie’s Homestay enough! A special and unforgettable trip in the garden island of Fiji :))

If you’re looking for a homestay experience, this is the perfect spot. We had a wonderful stay with Sarah and her family. They have a lovely home and we were made to feel so welcome. We enjoyed delicious Fijian dinners and were close by to beautiful beaches for snorkelling during the day. They had fantastic recommendations for things to do on the island. Along with fresh fruits, they had an aloe vera plant out back which proved to be an essential remedy for our days spent out in the Taveuni sun. For any Aussies thinking about booking - Sarah would love some more Vegemite please!

If you think about Homestay experience, this is the perfect place ! Sarah and Sam are absolutely amazing! More than helpful, really kind and mindful! Thank you for your kindness and knowledge! Home is close to the airport and a bus stop. Sarah and Sam have really good tips on how to visit the island and will adapt to your way of traveling:) The food is absolutely great, and I garanty, you won't leave the table hungry ;) The room was clean and tidy, with everything you need, even a newly added AC ! AMAZING stay! Taveuni island resort was even better than we imagined. The staff were so lovely and genuinely welcoming - some of the nicest people you’ll ever meet. The location was perfect for all our activities (kayaking, snorkeling, SUP). The sunset views over the ocean at the end of the day are unforgettable. It’s also easy afternoon stroll down to the small supermarkets if you need to grab anything extra where you can see the locals hanging around, or the kids playing volleyball. The meals were delicious and so generous in serving!! Naka to everyone at the resort for a 10/10 experience of Taveuni.

Very nice place, friendly staff and good atmosphere. Amazing food. Tours and transfers are organized. Every evening they are doing a kava ceremony which you can join. Good snorkeling spot at the beach nearby (check for high tide)

This is a lovely place to stay while in Taveuni. The hosting couple are very nice and accommodating. The place is as it looks on the pictures and there is a kitchen, so you can cook something while staying there.

Jaydee’s is a true Fijian homestay experience – you’re staying with a local family in their home - the facilities are simple but clean, comfortable, and have everything you need. What makes it truly special is the family, who go above and beyond to make your stay memorable. The warmth and hospitality of the family was the highlight. Everyone is so kind and welcoming, especially the grandmother, who radiates love and generosity. Staying here feels like being part of the family, and it’s a privilege to share in their home and culture. Breakfast was tasty, served with warmth and generosity – the perfect start to the day. And we had the yummiest dinner, made with love and care by the grandmother of the house. It was our favourite dinner of our trip! The location is great for exploring Taveuni. It’s peaceful and feels authentically local, while still being convenient for getting around the island. Just remember, you're at the top of the Island so if you're looking to get around lots, consider hiring a car. We used the local bus service and it was great, but it's not the most regular of service. (enjoy Fiji time!!) Mostly, we had a blast getting around walking which built up an appetite :) Reach out and ask the family when you book if you need help getting around, they're more than happy to help sort out local transportation. Honestly, the only thing we wish is that we had found Jaydee’s earlier and stayed longer! It was the most wonderful stay and the most amazing memories. We can not recommend it enough!! The Host family was very welcoming and made us feel that we are part of their family as well. Eparama and his son took us to all the tourist attractions and chauffeured my family all around the island. Mili and Aunty made the best breakfast from the presentation, homegrown fruits and freshly made pancakes... it fueled us up for the whole day. Uncle told us many stories of the olden times and the traditions of the island. Our time with the family will be cherish for many years to come.

It’s unfair to compare this homestay to the big resorts in terms of facilities. The whole point of it is that you get out into the wilds and have an authentic experience of village life on Taveuni. That’s exactly what you get. You’ll chat to friendly locals, shower in fresh springwater, bathe in waterfall pools, and eat delicious home-cooked food made with ingredients taken directly from the immediate environment. Air-conditioning and Starlink WiFi connections are coming soon. You won’t need to organise anything as Lui and Laisani will sit down with you and suss out your individual needs. If you need to be dropped off somewhere they can do it. If you want to rent a vehicle then they’ll organise a cheaper deal than the rental companies in town. I recommend you get a Hilux-type truck as some of the roads will wreck a normal car’s tyres and suspension. You’ll be welcomed as a family member but they won’t be overbearing: if you need time alone to regenerate then they’ll leave you be. The location is perfect for access to the marine parks, coastal walk and waterfalls. Tourists who opt for resorts elsewhere on the island can end up having to drive an hour or so just to get to what they want to see, and I think it’s a mistake. You want to be on the eastern side as the west can easily be done on a daytrip.
