This is the 2nd time we have stayed here en route to Eurotunnel. The staff are always really friendly. The rooms are clean and spacious compared to other similar style hotels. It is just off the main road around Chartres, so very easy for travelling and has plenty of parking. We didn't eat breakfast as had to leave so early so can't comment on that. Very good value for money as a one night stop off.

This place is a gem! I could not believe that we could sleep so close to the wonderful Cathedral in Chartres! It is an incredibly clean, comfortable, and very affordable choice. We were lucky to get a place for the night on short notice. The staff was SUPER helpful and friendly. The breakfast was superb, and the staff at the canteen were wonderful. Oh, and the family room had great views of the village of Chartres, too!

Fantastic hotel for the price with exceptionally nice and helpful staff. The room was large, clean and comfortable and the food in the restaurant excellent. We have used this hotel on a few occasions on the way to the channel tunnel, travelling with our dog, we have never been disappointed.

A Labyrinth of History and Architecture

Chartres is a French medieval town in the Eure-et-Loir department, about 90 km from Paris. Home to historic 16th-century buildings, half-timber houses, narrow streets and large squares, this well preserved city will amaze you with its beauty.

The 13th-century Cathedral of Chartres is the city’s main landmark and a famous site of Christian pilgrimage. Featuring 18th-century stained-glass windows and a stunning façade with bas-relief sculptures and stone statues, this UNESCO World Heritage is one of the most important Gothic cathedrals in France.

On the back side of the Cathedral, travellers will find a Grass Labyrinth, date back to around 1200. According to the tradition, pilgrims used to go to the centre of the labyrinth in order to receive the grace of God.

The Massacre Bridge is one of the bridges crossing the Eure River, which flows right to the heart of the old part of the city. Chartres has also beautiful churches like the St. Aignan and the St. Martin-au-Val.

Chartres Train Station offers direct trains to Paris and Booking.com will help you find a hotel close to the station, in the city centre or in the nearby cities of Lucé and Mainvilliers.

I was disappointed that the new tower tour had been closed.

I was disappointed that the new tower tour had been closed. I was given to understand that one could go to the deep underground grotto, which was also unavailable. I did tour the crypt. I visited St. Aignes church which was beautiful, I hope the restoration doesn’t ruin its beauty.

Over the years the cathedral appears to have become a tourist attraction rather than a place of prayer and contemplation. Sad, but inevitable and, as tourists ourselves, we are in no position to complain.

Chartres cathedral ticked all the boxes.

Chartres cathedral ticked all the boxes. And Chartres isn’t big enough to be too overwhelming to drive into. Plenty of eateries away from the cathedral and plenty of choice. Great boulangeries for breakfast goodies.

I was here on a retreat and stayed a week, but if you just came to visit you could do it in a lot less time. Loved wandering the medieval streets, so many cafés and restaurants to choose from. The cathedral is out of this world, it was great to be there when the big feast day was happening. I visited La Picassiete which was charming ('outsider art' where a local man mosaiced his house and garden from found cermics and glass) did the little train around the medieval sites, walked down to the abbey museum and back... And just soaking up the atmosphere

The Cathedral is so beautiful, with some of the best...

The Cathedral is so beautiful, with some of the best medieval stained-glass in the world, telling Bible stories and the lives of saints. You could spend a whole day alone in and around the Cathedral. Bring binoculars if you have them so you can see the windows in detail. The town centre is well preserved/restored medieval city, with lots of narrow & winding streets to explore. Some good shops too. Walks along the river Eure are great. We were there when they had night-time illumination shows at sites around the city, including the Cathedral, which was amazing to see.

Was a little worried driving into Chartres that it was not...

Was a little worried driving into Chartres that it was not going to be what we expected... but the Cathedral is stunning and worth making the visit for alone. The medieval old town is lovely and we also found a bar down by the river that was fab.

A very unique and quaint experience. Wonderful location, great free and secure parking on the site and a charming old house. The room had 2 nice sized windows thar looked on to an old neighbourhood and the breakfast was good and met a charming couple traveling France. It was a short walk to the Cathedral , which was amazing so I visited it twice. The Cathedral is an amazing 12th Cent wonder and a must see for all of you that love ancient churches.

Would be 10/10 but parking was a bit tight. And room had a smell but they kindly and quickly changed our room. The breakfast was the best I've ever had in france with pots of fresh leaf tea....lovely
