The room we stayed in had a slanted attic-like ceiling, which gave it a unique charm. I really liked how the original beams from before the renovation were kept as part of the décor. My daughter, who came with me, was absolutely delighted.

Fantastic hotel for the price with exceptionally nice and helpful staff. The room was large, clean and comfortable and the food in the restaurant excellent. We have used this hotel on a few occasions on the way to the channel tunnel, travelling with our dog, we have never been disappointed.

A Labyrinth of History and Architecture

Chartres is a French medieval town in the Eure-et-Loir department, about 90 km from Paris. Home to historic 16th-century buildings, half-timber houses, narrow streets and large squares, this well preserved city will amaze you with its beauty.

The 13th-century Cathedral of Chartres is the city’s main landmark and a famous site of Christian pilgrimage. Featuring 18th-century stained-glass windows and a stunning façade with bas-relief sculptures and stone statues, this UNESCO World Heritage is one of the most important Gothic cathedrals in France.

On the back side of the Cathedral, travellers will find a Grass Labyrinth, date back to around 1200. According to the tradition, pilgrims used to go to the centre of the labyrinth in order to receive the grace of God.

The Massacre Bridge is one of the bridges crossing the Eure River, which flows right to the heart of the old part of the city. Chartres has also beautiful churches like the St. Aignan and the St. Martin-au-Val.

Cathedral is definitely worth a visit.

Cathedral is definitely worth a visit. Take the little train that travels around the city to see many old buildings. Good restaurants by the Cathedral. Also down one of the streets a great Italian restaurant.

Lovely city, probably the best cathedral in Europe.

Lovely city, probably the best cathedral in Europe. Take binoculars to appreciate the fantastic windows. Lovely restaurants overlooking the cathedral. Take a walk around the river area, so quiet and peaceful. What ever do not miss the nightly light show, it is centred on the cathedral but also in 12 other sites around the city. Lot of walking but worth every step. Best light show i have ever seen and I have seen many around the world. Worth shelling out for the lotto train!

We spent an hour in the late afternoon walking through the cathedral and returned the next morning for 2-3 hours including a tour and an audio tour. That’s very important or you will miss information and details.

Great town with lots to see.

Great town with lots to see. Son et lumiere at times during year make this magical at night. Good selection of bars, bistro and cafes. Easy walking around town although there are some steep streets to get down to river level.

Lovely City with characters and we love the "chartres en...

Lovely City with characters and we love the "chartres en lumière" (check when it is on before booking your stay). Lovely restaurant and most of them have a vegetarian options (which is rare in France)

Clean, comfortable accommodation in a tranquil location a short walk from the centre of Chartres. Very friendly and welcoming host provided a good breakfast. This would be a good location for exploring Chartres; for us a last night in France on our way back from the Lot. We appreciated being able to leave our car in a secure location and enjoyed our walk to the Cathedral and main square for an evening meal.

Great location. It's an older hotel but nicely done. The bed was extremely comfortable. We stayed overnight on the way down to the South of France and appreciated that the hotel had secure parking which meant we could leave our big case in the car safely. We also were able to see the Lumiere festival at night - absolutely awesome

I always stay here each year when I drive my mum down to the south of France for the summer. This is the perfect half way point between south east England and south of France. Not far off the main road with a choice of restaurants next door. It’s always been clean, comfortable, quiet, and with a great breakfast.

The breakfast was wonderful...many offerings for all types of dietary needs. Staff was very helpful with parking! Fir those arriving by train, the hotel is directly across the street. Fantastic location and within easy walking distance of all the Chatres sights! Would certainly stay here again!!!
