The history and the beautiful setting.Magnificent room. This place is a real gem. Staff is very nice and helpful. Breakfast was not according to our expectations for such a house. It was a buffet, but when we came shortly after 0930 , it looked like a battle field. They did not refill it. The choice of food was also limited……

The hotel was in a good location, close to some local shops and the zoo. The whole hotel was clean and well presented. Breakfast was a good selection that the whole family enjoyed, we had drinks at the bar on the evening we arrived and again plenty of options. The staff were helpful, considering our limited French. Kim on reception was very welcoming when we arrived. Would recommend a stay you won’t be disappointed.

Compact city that was very walkable and clean and atmospheric. The old town had interesting food places and shops, and it was significantly less crowded than big cities. Good base for exploring the Loire valley, with other places like Amboise and Blois within an easy 1-hour (or shorter) train journey.

There are a good number of things to do and see in the city (probably more than I'm aware of as I had no kids to entertain) as well as it being a good base from which to head out for the visiting of nearby chateaux. It also has a high number of attractive looking restaurants and bars as well as a great variety of shops.

A beautiful town with plenty of excellent restaurants and café/bars located along and just off the main street. The Chateau Royale and Chateau Du Clos Lucé are definitely worthwhile visiting as is nearby aquarium. Although the town was busy with tourists both by day and evening throughout our visit, at no time did we hear any raised voices or see any untoward behaviour, which created a totally relaxed and safe atmosphere for people of all ages and gender. Would definitely recommend Amboise and its surrounding to anyone.

I was here on a retreat and stayed a week, but if you just came to visit you could do it in a lot less time. Loved wandering the medieval streets, so many cafés and restaurants to choose from. The cathedral is out of this world, it was great to be there when the big feast day was happening. I visited La Picassiete which was charming ('outsider art' where a local man mosaiced his house and garden from found cermics and glass) did the little train around the medieval sites, walked down to the abbey museum and back... And just soaking up the atmosphere

Fabulous historic town that's well worth the (slight) detour. Medieval half-timbered houses, magnificent cathedral, superb palace of Jacques Coeur that's in the same league as certain châteaux de la Loire. good restaurants, really pleasant museums. PLus it will soon be the European Capital of Culture, so book early !

Blois is an excellent ‘hub’.

Blois is an excellent ‘hub’. In the town itself there is an eclectic mix of Restaurants and cafes, The Clipper in the main Square is predominately Italian cuisine but good value. The Chateau Blois is a very worthwhile visit, we would recommend the Histopad which is provided free. There is an active Art scene and interesting Makers shops and galleries, although you have to search them out. Both St NIcholas and the Cathedral are worth the effort, although the Cathedral, while of historical significance, is a functional building lacking the grace of other cathedrals. The Railway Station gives easy access to Tours and Orleans and Chateau Chenonceau although Chenonceau is an easy drive (40 minutes) giving an opportunity to see the Loire and the surrounding countryside. The other Chateau in easy reach is Chambord,(25 minutes) which is truly stunning in both its scale and architecture, however it is significantly more expensive than both Blois and Chenonceau. There is a combined ticket for Chenonceau and Chambord which is worth investigating, both Chateau have excellent parking, free at Chenonceau, 8 Euro’s for the day at Chambord. The Histopad at Chambord is counter-intuitive and a guided tour would probably be a better option. If self-catering, there appears to be a lack of small food shops typical of most French Towns, there is however an Intermarche near the town centre which is easily available by road.

Saint Aignan is a quaint town on the river Cher.

Saint Aignan is a quaint town on the river Cher. There are lots of restaurants , shops in the town and a few bars. You need a car to get around . You can drive to places like Blois ,Tours & Montrichard for days out and visit many of the areas Chateaus. Free parking is available in all of the towns. Just put " free parking" into your google maps before you enter the town centre. Chateau Chenonceau is a must see and in my opinion the best in the area. It is worth paying the extra euros for the Chateau Chenonceau audio tour as it provides a room by room (there are 19 in total) tour ,great narration and additional, interesting information that isn't available in the free map/ brochure . In Saint Aignan ,we ate at Hestia, Venchi, Trois Chemins & La Relais. All good value and good food.

I needed to find a bed without any dinner or other facilities late in the day and only for the night as would be moving on early the next day. Therefore cost was the primary concern. It was cheap and the bed comfortable, though the room noisy when other guests were moving around the building or noisy in their rooms. Don't take breakfast option, it was poor value and not as you might expect when at reception. Behind reception is a pleasant looking restaurant, however breakfast for this hotel is in a side room which is not so pleasant and with not a great selection of food and drink. Check in staff did not make this clear when option offered at check in.

This was our first visit to Chinon, it will not be our last.We will, most certainly, be returning some time in the not too distant future. There had been much travel disruption & chaos to contend with i.e. train cancellations & substitute buses etc.So much so,that the railway staff provided ourselves & another passenger with a taxi for the last leg from Tours to Chinon as it was so late. This kindness was most appreciated as was the efficient, thoughtful manner in which the hotel staff had arranged our room access @ such a late Hour.Every one was so obliging. They are all exemplary ambassadors for the area. Chinon, it's people & environs are all hidden gems.
