The room we had was a beautifully renovated stable building in the grounds of the old house. Modern and spacious with a comfortable bed, kettle and coffee machine. The hosts were friendly and helpful and let us in to the room before the stated time. Breakfast in the room was good too. Particularly liked that they minimised use of disposable containers for breakfast items.

We know Gray very well because we have relatives there.

We know Gray very well because we have relatives there. It is a lovely provincial town on the beautiful River Saône: 'la France profonde'. As a consequence, if we drive down from England to Provence we find it an ideal distance to stop and relax. (We arrived in Calais at around midday and arrived in Gray in time for a French hotel dinner.) Normally we would stay with our family, but on this occasion there was no space, so we chose the Château de Rigny, a very please two-and-a-half kilometre drive along, and situated on, the Saône, which was about half as expensive again as the other place at which we have stayed on more than one occasion: the 'Au Mastroquet'. The latter has the advantage of being in the town, but the former certainly has a discreet touch of class. I yet again find myself recording how annoying I find Booking.com's patronising exhortations to write this 'review'. Currently I'm being told "Cue the confetti!"; non, merci.

We were there for the country music festival and stayed for...

We were there for the country music festival and stayed for two days. We visited the old town, and honestly, it was worth the trip. Gray has some beautiful historical sites that are definitely worth seeing. On Sunday morning, we went to the flea market, which was a good size and had some good prices.

After hearing the boat's captain say "In the old days" about twenty times... it's clear the region is deserted. Furthermore, the difference between the lakes and the Jura mountains is enormous. Fortunately, there's the Saône River, which is navigable.

A very warm welcome, a romantic castle with a magnificent and well-maintained park, a lovely room overlooking the park, comfortable, very clean, excellent food, fresh and well-prepared ingredients – we highly recommend it. The swimming pool remains a pleasant place, especially in the summer.

It was just a family visit, and it's certainly not where I would live. The city has terrible cell service. It's also partly devoid of small shops. There's not much to see in this city apart from the Baron Martin Museum.

The location and facilities of this hotel is exceptional; so beautiful and relaxing we booked an extra night and spent a day lazing round the pool. The rooms are decorated in the traditional style and ours was a little tired … but this is reflected in the price and the beds were comfortable, everything was very clean so we have no complaints. Couldn’t recommend a stay here highly enough. If you don’t speak French be prepared… you’ll need to make an effort to ask for help, but rest assured help is there!

We stay here regularly because we like the location ( between Switzerland and Uk) and the food. It’s a family run hotel with charm and character and lovely grounds. Rooms are big and beds are comfortable. It happened to be Valentine’s Day this trip and we had a superb 4 course meal with choice of meat or fish dishes. Oh and Champagne by the roaring log fire.

Location is on the main road in Gray overlooking the river. Host was very welcoming. Room was neat and clean. We ate out for dinner and breakfast so no comment on meals. Excellent overnight stop from Burgundy towards the east. Very close to restaurants along the river and the centreville of Gray.

The hotel is very nice and the personnel is extremely polite. Even though the hotel has not been renovated for a while, we found it very charming and enjoyed our stay and dinner there. Breakfast is very good as well.
