You could not choose a better place to stay. Margaret met me at the station and settled me in a gorgeous, comfortable room with a spectacular view. I went for an evening walk and discovered that within a few blocks of the front door there are two beautiful footpaths, one leading along a brook through a wood and one curving up along pastures of sheep to an old castle. I then learned these footpaths connect with others, one leading along to a lovely view across the Firth (and excellent bird watching) and another that either leads straight and level to Strathpeffer through fields and forests, or scrambles up the ridge of a lovely hill with a vitrified hill-fort at the top. I could go on and on. If you love hiking, quiet, or are seeking a holiday full of the beauty of the highlands but away from the touring crowds, this is your place. I know if I’d had a car there would have been even more to explore but this was perfect exactly as it was. I so appreciated the warm welcome, the friendliness, the delicious breakfasts, and the excellent conversation. Margaret and Seumus are skilled hosts and they thought of everything. (I also have to mention that I had the best fish and chips of my life at the Mallard, the pub near the railway station. And that if you travel in August, you may find as I did that the trails are bursting with blackberries and raspberries to snack on as you hike.)

Dingwall seems to lack quality visitors attraction.

Dingwall seems to lack quality visitors attraction. We drove round the town and outskirts to find a restaurant Except for fish and chips takeaways we settled to the Indian Restaurant next to the hotel. Where’s the Scottish restaurants promoting their Scottish beef Lamb and haggis or real sea foods

Dingwall is a pleasant town on the NC 500 with all the historic attractions, supermarkets, cafes and restaurants etc you would want. The Wok This Way is an excellent restaurant, visit the museum which is very interesting and there are some good walks for the energetic. Also don't forget to visit the river so see the dolphins.

Lovely area, however we didn't have much time to explore much outside of the Town. Good places to eat out. Some great wee shops. Deas the Bakers is amazing (they also have a coffee shop just a few doors up) Some knitted items throughout the town, for Christmas and Valentines Day remained in place - fun & lovely to see as none had been vandalised. Very clean town with plenty litter bins. Local people very friendly & pleasant. (Beware of checking closing times and kitchen closing times. We went early in the year, so maybe this was the reason places closed early)

The surrounding area is beautiful and well worth exploring.

The surrounding area is beautiful and well worth exploring. Rogie falls, the Touchstone Maze, Fyrish Monument and hill walk are all very close. The old train station of Strathpeffer is worth a look and there is also castle Leod, the seat of the Mackenzie clan which inspired the author of Outlander when writing her books, but check the website as it is only open certain days of the year. Dingwall is a good base when exploring other small towns also. It sit near a river which provides beautiful sunrises and views of the geese flying overhead

Dingwall was central to a lot we wished to visit.

Dingwall was central to a lot we wished to visit. Maybe it because we are happy to jump in a car and go see but we went as far Dunrobin castle in the north to Culloden. which we found easy. The town of Beauly is a must go and see. As was Dunrobin and Culloden. The Black Isle is a beautiful area too and we wished we had the time to see more

Dingwall is a pleasant, old-style country town of small shops and cheerful people. Like everywhere in Britain, there are signs of social deprivation, but as a visitor you are made to feel very welcome. It is a great centre for touring in your own vehicle or like us, public transport. The Kyle of Lochalsh and Far North railways set off from Dingwall. Closer are the spa town of Strathpeffer and the Black Isle. Take the hourly bus 27 from Hill Street to Strathpeffer, and walk back along the newly-opened old railway trail to Dingwall, or along the adjacent hills, with stunning views. Forget crowded Inverness, Dingwall has character!
