The staff were fantastic, it just a shame the room smelt of mould, the bath looked dirty and there was rust around the taps. We ended up leaving the lodge at 5am because of guest above keeping us wake. The receptionist was absolutely fantastic she went and had a word with them she done a fantastic job and could not apologise enough. They say they have a restaurant which they do not the garden is a mess and overgrown
Very friendly people from the hotel staff and taxi drivers to the customers in the shops one gentleman moved his trolley to one side to let me jump the queue in the Aldi store then another shopper did the same because I only had a few items both joking that it was my lucky night and I think for me this shows that the local people treat visitors to the town extremely well. The Old Priory Church certainly catches the eyes of visitors and the architecture is awesome. I am not sure if conducted tours of the church take place but if so such a tour would be extremely interesting.
I didn't get to go around Dunstable as I arrived later in the day and I stayed in the room as I had to get up early in the morning to get to a Covkartsport event, as I am an official. However, it looked like a nice place.
Reasonable for local shopping. Very good location for tourist attractions such as Whipsnade Zoo, Dunstable Downs Tring Museum. Lots going on in summer, free outdoor cinema at the priory and music days in the park. Proms in the park, all free.
Stayed at the Old Palace Hotel which I was happy with. Tried to find a local pub but the choice was v. limlted and v. uninviting. Overall the local neighborhood felt rather threatening. I'm sure there are some interesting places, but not at that end of town.
We are familiar with the Dunstable area and Redwing Lodge is very convenient for us when visiting relatives. On this occasion, we were travelling on to St Albans and Hockliffe made for a very easy onward journey. The only downside for us on this visit was that what used to be the Little Chef just next door was closed and so, after a fairly long journey, we had to turn out again on a wet and windy night to find somewhere else to eat.
