I wish we had rented a car when we were in Fort William because everything is a bit spread out. We came specifically to go on the jacobite steam train which was wonderful and I highly recommend, but we were hoping to do some hiking as well while there, and it was just a bit too hard to get to the trails from where we were staying. it has a charming little town with tourist shops and pubs and restaurants and a lovely bookstore. Our restaurant highlight was the Geographer. They don’t take reservations so there’s usually a queue for dinner, but our party of 2 got seated very quickly. We stayed at the Brevin’s Guesthouse which is about a 20 min walk from the town and 15 min walk to the bus/train station, but it was a wonderful stay and we would definitely stay there again.
I don't actually spend a lot of time in fort william itself more of a base for travelling further on (skye) mostly I do however like to stay in fort william all the amenities are there mcdonalds, costa morrisons etc .if you do get a 🌧 day there's lots of cafes to spend a bit time in .
The views are stunning. Lots of shops to walk around or stroll to seafront. Lots of outdoor adventure things to do. The steam train to mallaig leaves from here going over glenfinnan viaduct. Quite a sight to see.
Didn’t spend much time in town just visits to the supermarket. We managed to fit in the things we had planned to do and a few extra. Apparently there was a newish boat excursion on Loch Linnie which we went on and it was excellent. The skipper of the boat was really informative and made it a very pleasant experience. I can’t remember the name of the cruise but it was an orange boat.
Always like fortwilliam it's been our stop over place for the past 16 years while travelling to skye ,love getting fish & chips and sitting on the front watching the boats , what could be better 🙂
Good array of eating/drinking establishments. Lots of interesting things to see .. FW people are trying, and succeeding, to create interest. Maybe 10 years since I've been there .. huge leaps forward. Magnificent Movie Theatre .. and, of course, start point for the magical Jacobite Steam Train to Mallaig!
The hotel is very well positioned in Fort William and just a couple of minutes walk to bars, restuarants, etc. Its quite a quirky place, but we liked that and our room was comfortable and clean. We were able to park right in front of the hotel in a small car park with designated spaces for residents and was free, but I guess in really busy times parking may be more difficult. Breakfast was good, with different choices to the usual 'fulll english" and with a bit of an American feel (I had pancakes with bacon and maple syrup)
Fort William
As I am very familiar with living at student accommodation I found this one very nice and convenient to stay. It is at the centre of Fort William and, should one is willing or familiar with the concept of staying at student accommodation (with all the pros and cons that comes with it - it is not a hotel-grade facility after all), then it is a fine choice and I highly recommend it.
Fort William
Where do we start? Absolutely perfect stay right on the water. Attention to detail was second to none - from the complimentary whisky in the room to a wee sprig of Scottish heather on the bed. Hosts were so nice and breakfast was fantastic. If we are ever staying in Fort William again I’m not even going to look elsewhere - if a room is available this is where we will stay!
Fort William
Very good quality stay. Plenty of room, not far from Fort William and Ben Nevis mountain (a few minutes by car), many amenities, including TV with free Netflix. Bedrooms were large and comfortable, and the property also had floor heating. Sits atop a café and right next to a supermarket, so very good for a group of perhaps 3 or more travelers.
Good sized hotel just outside of Fort William with very decent restaurant and bar, reception staff arranged taxis to town if required, great choices at breakfast, staff very friendly, room clean and linens fresh, bathroom a bit tired but for the price worked for me and my mate, no complaints would stay again.
Peaceful and clean apartment that was ideal for our needs. Liked the washing machine as we were on extended vacation in Scotland. Liked the location, near downtown Fort William, close to Neptune Staircase and easy access to highway that led to Isle of Skye. Perfect for folks who have access to car.
The hotel is in a quiet location away from the bustle of Fort William. All the staff were very cheery and helpful. The room was spacious and the beds were comfortable. Breakfast was very good, the choices of Continental, Full Scottish, Full Vegetarian, Porridge or Kippers were nice.
This was a flying visit to Fort William for work purposes and I needed a place to sleep before heading off early morning before breakfast, the large bed was great, could probably fit a family of five! the hotel was clean and the reception staff were very friendly and helpful.
Fort William
Room was very comfortable, the guest house had a very nice conservatory where we had our breakfast, we loved the Scottie Dog theme I would highly recommend this guest house to anyone looking for a place to stay in Fort William
