Make time to have a good look around the Church in Ilminster. For me it was so peaceful, calm and welcoming. I visited the day after the special 100th commemorations of the start of the Battle of Passendaele. I read many of the citations and memorials, kept in the special folders in the church, of the young and not so young local soldiers and nurses who died in WWI. So moving.
The churchyard grass was being mown whilst I was there, so there was a glorious fresh grass aroma in the air.
I visited a much smaller church too, just out side Illminster, in the village of Cricket Malherbie. St. Mary Magdalene, again, very welcoming. I sat on the church seat in the tidy churchyard eating my sandwiches in the sun. I met one of the churchwardens who was delightful. Such a cosy feel to the church and village.
