A great place for a restful break. With the car we could get an all round visit to a lovely corner of God’s wonderful creation. We ate at the chippie down the road. We could not recommend activities for young couples - we are 80 and 72 years young! But there must be something.
Can recommend visit to Mt Stuart House it was amazing. Had a drive round the Island and again it is amazing. Unfortunately there are not a great choice of nice restaurants (maybe wrong time of year or the results of Covid) but the ones that we did visit , Indian Pavilion and Black Bull, were very good. Some nice little individual shops to visit also some nice walks when weather allows. I always enjoy a visit to Rothesay.
Such a beautiful town, set on a stunning island with such a lot to do. It's very underrated and deserves a lot more visitors. Hopefully the tourists will return now that more people are holidaying closer to home. You'll be guaranteed a warm welcome.
Rothesay is my home town. Felt it looked rather shabby old and empty building being left to disintegrate especially Royal Hotel. Pavilion as been under refurbishment forever. Ardencraig Garden closed yet advertised to be open. No signs to it from Skippers View walk, has to ask!! Having said all this I love Rothesay and will always return. Ettrick Bat and Esplanade Restaurant and Glendale excellent for eating.
Rothesay is a beautiful island. The views are spectacular and the people are so friendly. Great place to relax and unwind. When it comes to eating out there are lots of places to choose from and we never came across anywhere that we didn't enjoy the food.
First time back in Rothsay for a long time. Lots of interesting buildings and history but the place is crying out for investment and refurbishment. Bute has a lot to offer as a location, beaches, ruins, history, and travel there by ferry is always romantic, especially from Wemys Bay. The paddle steamer Waverley also drops in from time to time so you could be lucky and catch it. Fish and chips on the seafront is always a treat. There looked like some good seafood restaurants but we hadn't booked and were only looking for the traditional fish and chipper - which we found.
We had a fabulous honeymoon with Brodie and the gang. The american breakfast was a total belly buster and I highly recommend the homemade chicken wings and the burritos. Everyone went the extra mile to make our stay very special. The little extra touches like usb points, large tubs of showering products, mini packs of tic tacs, robes and slippers were just perfect. The hotel is spotlessly clean and we were treated like royalty in a perfectly American way. See you all next year!
Rothesay
Owners, David and Amy, went above and beyond to ensure we (family of four) had a lovely, comfortable stay with them. They only recently bought the hotel, but aim to put their heart and soul into making it a standout place to stay on Rothesay. The current photos do not do it justice. Very nice, friendly, comfortable, clean. The breakfast is excellent.
