The most obvious thing to love about this flat was that ir was in a great location esp if you're coming from the ferry port. Its near to all supply shops and places to eat and drink and to do a bit of shopping. The harbour is right near by, perfect place to sit and watch the sun go down. We stayed in Flat 1 and we were impressed how big and spacious it was. The bedrooms were quite big and the open plan lounge/kitchen was very relaxing. In the evenings we relaxed in rhe lounge and I even took advantage of the gaelic to English dictionary! Thank you to the host for leaving a bottle of lemonade, fresh loaf of bread and some biscuits. That was a nice touch! There was also milk in the fridge and the kitchen was well equipped with also tea/coffee/sugar as well as with cleaning products. The bathroom was amazing, I loved how deep the bath was and how powerful the shower was. Toilet flushed well and the sink worked well also. I loved the white tiles, made it look cleaner and bigger. The furniture was perfect. Very relaxing. The flat was very near to the bus garage which was very handy. The flat was 10 minutes walk from the castle and museum. We didn't mind the noise much. We had to open the windows as it was very hot and as there is a pub right under, its normal for there to be noise. But when the windows are shut you can't hear much.

The shops in Stornoway were super with a good range of things to choose from. We visited the butcher, the charity shops, the deli, the new Co-op supermarket, tweed shops, Tourist Information and Taigh Ceilidh where we received a very warm welcome.
We were very lucky with the weather given the time of year. Stunning beaches and very interesting historical sites. Enjoyed eating out and had excellent meals. Really helpful information from Jessica in the tourism centre and pleasant friendly locals who were keen to share their knowledge of the islands
the hotel is fine the staff are good prices a bit high but that is standard for the island. my only problem is a slight health issue and with the very steep stairs and the rooms all upstairs i found this a problem but the hotel is ok.
Don't bother with Stornoway itself ( apart from the castle). The shopping is poor and it's very difficult to eat out on a Sunday or Monday. Most restaurants are closed! SO BOOK if you can !( We don't think they want to encourage tourists!) Do go to the Black House village and the standing stones. Really interesting. We were looking for wildlife but it was minimal. We were only there 2 full days but wished we were back on Uist!!
I liked the general location to travel around Lewis from. My friend went into Stornaway and enjoyed it I liked the beaches and dog walks around. Lews garden and grounds for walk woodland center cafe. Tesco click and collect!! West side Bosta, Reef, sea stacks, uig bay, callinish stones ( all 3 sites), Dun Calloway…..
I really liked the museum and the castle's sunken gardens. Gardens were peaceful and lovely laid out. The museum was a good size with helpful staff. Some nice food shops for gifts/souvenirs and for Harris tweed and jewellery. Can easily visit historical sites and beautiful beaches with white sands and turquoise crystal clear sea. Just like the Caribbean if the weather is good. Only quieter - you can have the beach almost to yourself.
