Loved Ikaria, all of it.
Loved Ikaria, all of it. If you are into nightlife, this is not the place for you. If you travel with family, want to recharge your batteries, this is it. Beaches are varied and excellent: Livadia lots of sand, Kampos good for kids no undertow, Nas awesome but lots of stones. Food is good, plentiful and soooo cheap. We settled in a small place un Evdilos (Angelica´s) whose food was literally home made (if we requested something she would have it done, though sometime it was for the next day). Her Moussaka is something not to be missed, and veggies are tasty and very good (or so said my vegetarian wife). Outside Evdilos... Karavostamo es lovely, good eating, and nothing like having a cup of greek coffee next to the cliffs. Frantato is an incredible view, and a place to recharge batteries and let go all grief. With an awesome monastery near by, soooo quiet and tranquil. Christos Rahos is also beautiful, with two or three very good restaurants. Gianiskari is great for afternoon coffee or a beer overlooking the sea.
We stayed at Cuscos Studios, which is the best deal I´ve had in a looong time. Two room appartments with an equiped kitchen, and incredible view of Kampos Beach (400 meters away). Clean, quiet, in good shape, with good beds, and a/c. Best of all is the owner who speaks English, Spanish, Italian, French (oh yeah and Greek) and is awesome. Christos was so helpful: I mean Ikaria is a place where you will need a car to really take advantage of the island, and he loaned us his own for a day while we arranged to rent one. How many hoteliers will do that? Will definetely return
