Patra is a town full of University students that makes it a very live, fun town. There is a great balance of nightlife, city culture, sea and country experiences available. The Castle on the top of the hill is a must see as is the Roman Odeon. The best was walking down the main strip on a Friday night. The city was alive with people having a fabulous night out. Shopping, cafes and restaurants galore. Make sure you go when the Universities are running as you may have a very different experience.

From here, you can use a bus to reach Kiato, Corinth and Athens very cheaply. It is a beautiful town with nice monuments and ancient traditions. Pleasant city, active nightlife, many shops and excellent cuisine. From the Gulf of Patra you enter the Peloponnese. It is the right place to start a trip to Greece if you arrive by ferry from Italy, either with your own vehicle or simply on foot.

Patra has some great archaeological sites & a castle but...
Patra has some great archaeological sites & a castle but don't visit on a Tuesday as they are closed all day. It was easy to walk where I wanted to. There were lots of buses but I didn't have time to find out where you could travel to. So for those who don't want to walk I'm sure public transport could be an option. There were many bars & cafes. Interesting street & shops. You are close to the port if you wish to get a ferry to somewhere.

Patra is not a city for tourists.
Patra is not a city for tourists. It is very dirty, there is glass and rubbish on every street and it is difficult to get around. We went for over a week for a hotel staycation but massively regretted it and couldn’t wait to leave. Food options are limited. Google maps listings are outdated and incorrect and it is just not a nice place for a tourist to be.

The city is lively and vibrant with many cafes etc., nice murals... but I was surprised it looks quite run down. Unfinished buildings, grafitti, unpaved areas, dried lawns and flowers, old benches, fountain not working, lots of beggars.
Does it deserve a better management/ mayor? The castle area has such a huge potential. A few cafes there and a pavement just in the process of building... but what have they been doing the last 10-15 years? As if the city was sleeping.... what is the story?
In my eyes, at the moment, just for a necessary stay over if you travel by ferry.

Very nice new suites hotel in downtown Patras. Ultra high quality, large room and very friendly reception from Sofia. Breakfast is ordered from outside but an incredible bargain of the highest quality. The evening before a basket with basic breakfast foods was brought to our room, nedpresso andbtea was available as well.Patras really comes alive in the pedestrian streets in the evening with ample modern Greek restaurants. A very pleasant surprise.

I always have a great stay in this hotel; the rooms are all beautifully decorated, they are spacious and the staff of the hotel are warm, kind and always helpful! My preferred hotel stay in the center of Patras close to Psila Alonia square!
