A relaxing introduction to our first two days touring the Peloponnese. Close enough so that we easily visited Nafplion and Palamidi, and the hotel rates were much more reasonable than in Nafplion. We had a very nice meal at a restaurant near where we stayed - it was a little chilly, and the staff turned on the heat for us. We had an excellent view of the bay and islands, one of which was charmingly lit at night. There were two markets near us, so we were able to buy food and snacks - quite well stocked for everything we needed.
Kyparissi is a true small village that has breathtaking views of the mountains, but best of all it's located on the east coast side of the of the Peloponnese with a small bay that you can go swimming and watch fishing boats go out to catch fresh fish that are sold to local restaurants in the village
Chrani is definitely the place for a peaceful and relaxing holiday. Chrani is a quiet, small, rural, village with a long stretching sand and shingle beach and views across the Messinian Gulf towards the Mani and Tayegetos Mountains. There are plenty of good quality restaurants tavernas, bars, beach bars and two mini markets. It is well positioned to explore Messene an important ancient site not to missed if you are visiting the south west Peloponnese region as well as the neighbouring countryside, towns and tourist centres such as Koroni, Pylos and Stoupa.
Tolon has a special magic that draws people back again and again. By the sea, waves gently lapping onto the sandy beach, boats bobbing in the bay, islands and mountains in view, colourful tavernas and beach bars, small jettys, quaint fishing harbour. Behind this, a bustling main street with bars, restaurants and shops. Something for everyone. Such a relaxing place but within a short drive of many of the ancient sites in the Peloponnese. We recommend the Romvi for great food, service and views. The Barbaressa, a traditional, family run tavern with rooms - right on the beach - heaven!!! On the main street - Esperando for coffee, pizza, crepes and milk shakes to die for. Athenas for delicious, creamy ice cream. Nefelis for wonderful cocktails - they are strong so take care! Dionysus for a friendly drink and to watch the world go by. Nikolas bar for beer and a good chat. Espresso for people watching on the corner. Have a walk on to Ancient Assini for a bit of culture- well worth the effort. Cosmopolitan Nafplion is only half an hour away. Take the evening cruise there for just 10 Euros. Taxi from Athens to Tolon around 90 Euros return per person. It takes about 2 hours with lots to see on the way, including the Corinth canal. Accommodation is generally very reasonably priced with lots to choose from. We guarantee you will fall in love with Tolon just as the many visitors before you who go back again and again. Enjoy!!!
Great place to base yourself on the West Coast of Peloponnese. Fraction of the cost compared to Navarone area and within less than an hours drive to Kalamata and Finikounda. Within 15 minutes from Gialova and 30 minutes from Pylos. Plenty of great beaches with bars in surrounding area. Good restaurants especially if you like your fish go to Maistrali Fish Tavern and have George and Katey cook some of their delicious seafood specialties.
If you are tourist, Tripoli would not necessarily be on your 'must visit' list. It is however a perfect stopping off point as part of a touring holiday of the Peloponnese. It is also just off the main motorway linking Athens, Korinthos and Kalamata. The town has hotels, restaurants and bars all in a large pedestrian area. With a car you are a short drive from some 'minor' Greek historical sights but perhaps more importantly, you can take in some speculative drives in the mountains to the west of the town. If you are really adventurous, if you continue west you will arrive at the famous historical site of Olympia. A 'must' visit even if history is not really your thing.
Very tiny town woth a narrow beach and dozens of cute restaurants by the sea. It is easy to travel surrounding areas of Peloponnese from here, but in the town itself there is not much to do. Part of the town is uphill, so not recommended for families with babies in strollers
An unexpected delight, possibly passed through on the way to the Peloponnese. Much to see at the archaeological site and its adjacent museum' A mountain to climb to look at ancient fortifications, if the weather cool. An undeveloped beach road...a few tavernas on the water's edge 15 mins away, avoiding modern Corinth. We had a lovely fresh veggie meal at the place next to the Banana Bar right on the beach.
Kalamata is a modern city with a nice vibe. It does not rely on tourism to exist. Good shopping & cafe culture. The old town is small but worth a poke around (interesting cathedral just under the castle ruins). The market is in the old town on Saturday & Wednesday & well worth a visit. Eat lunch in Ta Rolla, a traditional cafe near the market. The long fabulous beach is a short drive or bus ride (or longish walk) from the city centre. Kalamata is not a place to spend a full vacation but just fine for a night or 2 & a great jumping off point for the Mani peninsula or in the other direction the fabulous beaches & pretty small towns of the southern Peloponnese around Pylos.
Nafplio is one the most beautiful towns in Greece. It has a huge assortment of taverns and restaurants and over looks the Peloponnese mountains. The Palamidi is stunning to look up at our walk to too - over looking the turquoise sea! Locals are friendly and the weather is fab!!!
Kardamili
A great location with a marvellous view across the sea to the Messinian penninsula and the Taygetos mountains in the opposite direction. Very sweet hosts who left little foodie gifts occasionally, like figs and buttermilk pancakes for breakfast. I stayed in the self contained apartment for ten days in order to explore the southern Peloponnese and at this difficult time (due to covid), I felt it was completely safe and secure. It's also only three minutes walk from the bakery and the excellent Dioscouri taverna.
This is a very reliable address, in a sublime corner of the Peloponnese. Rooms are rather minimalistic, but sparkling clean and very well organized - linen is changed daily, a big plus -, as is the whole reception and breakfast area, always with a smile. Parking is not the easiest in the world, due to local terrain, but you should be fine with the assistance of the very kind and helpful owner (?), Mrs. Petra. Try to book a room with unobstructed sea views from the balcony - big, well-shaded- and soak it in :)
Gialova
Mylos Apartments were our final destination whilst travelling around the Peloponnese. What a beautiful end to our holiday. Roi is the ultimate host. She is a total star and made us so welcome and had great tips and advise about the local area. The apartment was gorgeous, spotlessly clean and very spacious. Extremely tasteful with a really high spec but with a very chilled out vibe. Location was perfect, 5 minutes to the beach and restaurants. We can not recommend a stay here highly enough.
My wife cried when we left. We experienced nothing like Pirgos on our trip through the Peloponnese. The service and hotel gave 5 star treatment from the moment we arrived until the minute we left. Sakis, the owner, carried our bags to the car, treated us to wine, ouza, and great conversations. The hotel has been in his family for 300 years, but completely remodeled with white walls and modern conveniences. It reminded me of the islands, because you go to sleep to sounds of the sea.
We visited 5 hotels in a row while travelling around Peloponnese (from 55 to 75 EUR per night), and this hotel was the best of all. The view from outside is amazing, rooms are new and comfortable, breakfast were great, staff were very helpful and caring. I also had the tastiest portion of ice cream in their restaurant (recommend!) and their Wi-Fi speed was very good (which is sometimes hard to find). If we ever return to this area, we will definitely book this hotel again.
Stunning boutique hotel & spa in a traditional little town. Very comfortable stay. Great architecture. The staff was very caring, they reserved the two rooms connected for our family which was really convenient, and prepared an early breakfast the day of our departure. You can access to nearby beaches by car for 15min drive. The place is famous for escalade and mountain hiking too. The town is charming too. Really worth the detour when you travel in Peloponnese.
Location of hotel is great, not close to beach or center of town, but silent and calm. Swimming pool, free parking. Sufficient breakfast with vegetables, fruits. Staff is kind. Good family room with balcony and nice sea view. Small fridge and air conditioner on the room. This is a good place to visit the historic sites of the Peloponnese. Tolo is resort set on one of the beaches of the Argolic Gulf with easy access to Nafplio, Epidaurus and Mycenae.
Really cosy and luxurious hotel with great service. The rooms were spacious, really clean and with nice view. Very comfortable beds. The furniture and the decoration in the rooms was beautiful. The hotel followed all their covid-19 measures in a responsible way. Wonderful breakfast, Elisavet was very caring and offered great service. We had a great stay! Gytheio is a bit boring but the hotel is one of the best in the area of South Peloponnese.
Patra
It was an amazing experience both with the hotel facilities and its staff. The room was spacious, modern, pretty well equipped and clean. The receptionist was very helpful in giving us additional details about the city and anything else which might be visited on Peloponnese. The parking place was in closed garage and it gave us additional satisfaction. Would visit the same place again if Patra would come across my road map.
Kardamili
My wife and I have travelled in Greece almost all our lives, and Ifigenia's rooms are classic simple, clean and comfortable rooms, with a little balcony looking out to the sea or mountains. Sure.. there are no frills, but you don't need them if the welcome is generous, the water is hot, the sheets are clean and the air conditioning works. We were there for the Peloponnese, not the room! We really loved staying here!
We stayed in this beautiful hotel as part of our tour of the Peloponnese. It was so beautiful, I wish we booked for longer!! The staff was exceptional, went out of their way to accommodate all our requests. Very kind and professional. Christos and George, we will not forget you! The breakfast was delicious and filling. The room was very clean and spacious with a fabulous view as well. I couldn't have asked for more :)
Lovely small family hotel, very helpful friendly staff. The large balconied room overlooked the sea. Very comfortable bed and large room. Breakfast was exceptional. - in fact more than we could eat. In our 14 day trip around the Peloponnese this was a fantastic hotel in what became our favourite location. Huge Hote car park near to the Hotel was invaluable in the narrow streets of Korini.
Just over an hour’s drive from Athens airport- a great break if you are on your way to the Peloponnese. The hotel is very new and beautiful and clean. Nice design with balconies looking over the sea. Lovely relaxing places to eat and drink by the sea. Easy places to get into the sea for a swim. The area by the sea would probably not be suitable for small children.
Korinthos
The property is spacious with three big bedrooms and has a large private terrace with a wonderful elevated view of the sea and the distant mountains. It is only a short distance by car to a good supermarket, nice restaurants, and Ancient Corinth. A better place from which to explore both southern mainland Greece and the northern Peloponnese would be hard to find.
Marathopolis
Great value for money! Lovely hotel, with great and helpful staff. The breakfast was great and diverse. It's just a couple of minutes walking distance from the town center with the taverns and cafes. The room was spacious and clean. The pool is also very nice with salt water from the sea. Just what we needed in this part of the Peloponnese!
It’s a unique five star hotel in the Peloponnese that has respected the surroundings and the local architecture. Everything is very professional and clean. The staff is excellent, the food is great and the atmosphere is peaceful. A place I would recommend as a must place to see in Greece.
The best stay on our tour of Peloponnese was at this Hotel, so beautiful view of the sea from the balcony of our room! Very kind and helpful staff and also, the best breakfast! Was more like a brunch, rich with fresh dishes like scrambled eggs, homemade cake, and fresh orange juice.
Diakopto
Well stocked spacious apartment in a great location as a stop for traveling northern Peloponnese. The Dicopto train is 500 meters away and there are nice seaside restaurant 100 meters away. Staff was great and friendly. Breakfast is modest but good considering the price (6 Euro).
Dhimitsana
This is a slice of hidden Greece heaven. Magnificent hill top village with the most gracious hosts imaginable. Hera and Ari have created a guest house of the highest quality with impeccable attention to detail. We did not want to leave. Do not pass up this gem of the Peloponnese.
We liked everything about this hotel. The location, the staff, the pool and the beach. And the food was the best we had on our 3 week trip around the Peloponnese. It was lovely to see the owner and his son so ‘hands on’. Complete gentlemen. We would love to come back.
